our son went to Christan Fellowship for 1st and 2nd grade and we think it was great. He was well prepared when he hit 3rd grade at Hillside. smaller class sizes were a plus, the teachers were great- we had no major complaints outside of a few isolated incidents that were rectified quickly.

I prefer public school but the most requested private school that my high-end clients seek is Flint Hill School in Fairfax. It is about K a year but I'm told is at the same level as schools costing twice as much like Georgetown Prep. Probably to far away but people seem to love it.

You can get a list of schools and there stats on my website: www.sgcrealestate.com

My kids go to the Virginia Academy. They love it and I love it also. The teachers are very caring for the kids success. In Kindergarten they were able to break some of the kids that weren't picking up as fast into another group and before mid year, all the kids were at the same level. I get daily interaction with my kids' teachers. They are a Christian school (non denominational Protestant) so if you're not into that, this school probably isn't for you.

Just curious, how much is a year tuition for kindergarten? I thought I heard Sidwell Friends was something like $30k/yr.

My daughter went to Virginia Academy for Kindergarten and it cost a little less than $10K a school year. This included after school care which runs from 3pm - 6:30pm. If you choose just the regular hours (8am-3pm), then the cost was somewhere around $6K or $7K. Lunch is extra, pay for only the days you sign up for lunch, or bring your own lunch. I think that Christian Fellowship is about the same as Va Academy for tuition.

We were very satisfied with Va Academy, and will try to enroll the younger child there for Kindergarten as well. They follow the A-beka curriculum, and is a very academic school. The kids are getting twice the education as kids who go to public school for kindergarten. They concentrate on reading, math, cursive writing, social studies. The second half of the school year included some geography, money counting, etc - more than I had expected for kindergarten. They go to chapel once a week for Bible lessons.
