A friend of mine used them to carpet the basement. Next day service just like they advertised and he was happy w/ the work. He said it wasn't cheap though.

yea that is what I heard about them too from a friend... quick service but not cheap at all, quite expensive so make sure to get several estimates to compare.

The limited exposure I have had has been they are expensive. We have not gone through with actually buying from them.

We have had very nice service and dealings with CMI Design (based over in Sterling near where Dicks used to be). http://www.cmidesignstudio.com/

My sister has ordered carpet from Home Depot twice and has excellent results both times. My brother-in-law called Empire and got a fairly high estimate for carpeting. He told the guy he needed to think about it and get some more prices. The salesman told him that was a one day price, if he called back the next day it would be higher. Needless to say, he didn't go with them.

We too chose Home Depot (Ryan Plaza) for new carpet and were extremely satisfied with the results. We took advantage of the no payments and no interest for 12 months promotion. Dyhan Dennis was the flooring specialist we worked with and she was very helpful. From placing the order to scheduling the measurement and installation, she was very knowledgeable and followed through on all of her committments. And most importanly, the installers did a great job. They called us the day after the install to make sure we were completely satisfied.

We used empire... note they will negotiate the price, if you ask... we found it less expensive than home depot and were happy with the work

With Home Depot, the whole house install is $139 but you need to add for moving furniture and capret removal/disposal. For the DIYers out there that want to save money on the install, you can save about $50/room on the furniture moving and about $.56/SF on the carpet/pad removal if you opt to DIY.
