Attention Sunstone Court residences - So the last couple days I've noticed several... correction a WHOLE crap load of millipedes crawling around the front of my house... out of disgust I Went to target to get some RAID, I thought I got them all, but now they seem like they just multiplied by a 100000. I started to do some research and they seems to be harmless but they look so awful just crawling around the front door of my house and my garage areas. I did an inspection around the house and it seems to be mainly in the front. Out of curiosity I walked over to four others houses to inspect their homes and sure enough they've got a whole crap load too!! So I'm I am thinking to myself how is this possible there is no way a queen millipede could lay eggs at 5 houses and so many at that. I can only think of one thing in common with our houses. We all get the same mulch from the HOA - I am not insinuating that they came from the mulch. But I find it quite hard to believe that out of the 5 houses I inspected tonight all five were infected with this harmless but disgusting looking creepy crawlers. Can anyone on sunstone court please chime in. They seem to come out at night time hours.

    Thanks in advance.
    George

Oh yes, and on more thing, the rain the last several days does not help as the millipedes thrive in wet and damp areas... :angryfire:

Does your street get mulch from the HOA too?

Not sure about the mulch being the cause as HLS put the mulch down in early spring and I would think that you would have noticed a problem long ago. HLS also does our section and there have been no reports of infestation in the courtyard homes on the pool side.

Get a couple of hedgehogs. I've personally seen them eat meal worms. So cute.

Here are a few things we use:
    1) Add a mixture of Borax & Mothballs around the foundation of your house.
    2) Use Cedar mulch.
    3) Add carpet juniper plants as a ground cover in your landscaping.
    4) Clean up any dead leaves/needles - this is their breeding ground.
    4) If you see a wolf spiders (the Big jumping ones) do not kill them, they feed on millipedes.

FWIW - Cedar & Juniper are natural/green pest repellents. I hope this helps

Mothballs are toxic. Be careful using these if you have pets, or young children.

ummm exCUSE me??? a millipede will not cause me to have nightmares, shakes and sleepless nights, whereas a big jumping WOLF spider will send me strait to the looney bin. almost have on TWO occasions- I have real spider issues.:screwy: just ask superior- they come out regularly just so i can sleep at night!

I think I'll ask Santa for a hypnotist for christmas to rid me of arachnophobia. and hydrophobia and dentaphobia while he's as it.
