This is just downright dangerous. We live up on Highview Trail Place and there has been nothing done to the major hill on Ridgeway Dr. and we are well over 2 inches now. This is the only way in and out for all of the homes up here. The HOA newsletter is absolutely NO help. All of the numbers for snow removal support go to nothing and you can't find a mailbox for the Developer contact. This is the second year in a row now. I can not believe that Ridgeway drive would not be a priority street. There are probably more than 70 homes up here that the only means of access out of the community is down a very steep hill that turns into nothing but a sheet of ice.

I just love that you can't get a hold of anyone at all. Absolutely ridiculous.

If they can't get to the street until later they should at least pretreat this hill.

You do realize Ridgeway is a VDOT street and in a community. Since it is a main street it will be higher then most of us for VDOT but still not on VDOT's priority list. The only number that can even help you is 703 383 8368.
Highview trail is still the developer and that will be gotten to shortly but that will not help you with Ridgeway.

I was told that not all of ridgeway was under vdot control. When did that change? The last time I complained about this I was told it was the developers responsibility. I really don't care if Highview is plowed. It's a flat street. The Hill is downright dangerous. So you are telling me there is nothing our HOA can possibly do to get this some sort of priority. There is no other way out of the community for all of these homes. Last year it was really bad and we didn't even get that much snow and it's obvious this is going to be the case again this year.

When I was a kid and snow was coming, the people in our neighborhood parked accordingly. There was a street that you had NO hope of getting up and out of if you didn't park your car on another street. And you just walked to your car. And no one complained about the government fixing it for them. And then, if there was time, the neighbors would all pitch in and shovel some of it.
Not saying anything is right or wrong, just remembering. It was always so exciting for me as a kid to see all of those cars lined up the night before they called for snow.

So I just counted the houses. I way underestimated. 150 homes not including those on the hill.

I can just see now what 150 SUV's and Mini vans would look like lined up stone hollow drive and Ridgeway. And let's not forget those that need to have 2 vehicles down there...

I am pretty sure all of Ridgeway is now VDOT controlled that is how we got the added $200 fine on the road for speed (we could not do it until the whole road was in their system). And no unfortunately the HOA can do nothing to get VDOT to change their priority. Ridgeway may service several hundred homes but they are going to be much more concerned about the toll road, the beltway, rt 7, rt 15 etc long before they worry about even Claiborne and Belmont Ridge and after that they will start working on the other main streets like Ridgeway and Demott etc before they start on the interior. If you look on page 17 of the December newsletter it will give you the most up to date information on who is plowing your street.

We use to live on a private street that was plowed by the HOA. It was interesting as we could get off our street but as soon as you hit Vestals Gap you would have problems until you could get to Claiborne and sometimes even until you got to the toll road. I agree with you it is not ideal however as long as VDOT is controlling the majority of the roads everything will be at their pace. (This includes the repairs they need in the spring)

Chill out. It's just a little snow. You'll be fine. This snow is easy to drive in and doesn't require a blanket of sand to maneuver through. If you're freaked about a little snow then give it a couple of hours and the stuff will be gone.

If it's snowing (snowed) that much, where does one need to go and how many people would need to have 2 vehicles available. Emergencies are different, but you're exaggerating just a bit (everyone on the street owns 2 minivans/SUVs?)

I remember the Presidents Day storm of '79. My dad and my 2 brothers shoveled out our driveway and some of the street (enough to back the car out). Then my dad just plowed (not a real plow, just used the front of the '71 Buick Estate Wagon) down the street. If he got stuck, my brothers jumped out and shoveled until they could move and then hoped back in. While this was going on, mom was calling all the neighbors asking if they needed anything from the store or whatever. We collected a few orders and went out for everyone. We did that because that's what you did back then.

For those of you who weren't around or might have forgotten, there was 2 feet (give or take) of snow on the ground.

Sorry Lost (and I am not trying to rub it in), but I have to tip my hat to the HOA Streets, ours has been plowed twice.

Yeah, sometimes I thin our contractor is overzealous. After all, he gets paid by the hour!

Highview Trail has still not been plowed. Maybe they couldn't make it up the Ridgeway hill to us.

Perhaps you haven't noticed the weather forecast which indicates we're not supposed to get above freezing until at least 10am. I'll just pray that nobody up here has to call 911 for a fire or medical emergency. And if anyone would like to go to church tomorrow morning, well, thank goodness God will understand.

I'm not fretting, personally. I actually didn't have to get out today so I enjoyed the beauty of it. But it's a little annoying to know that folks a few streets away -- DOWN THE HILL -- have been plowed twice but we have yet to receive it once. If I had been one who had to go to work, or God forbid needs emergency services in the middle of the night and an ambulance can't make it up the black ice, I'll be more than a little "annoyed".

You're fretting. Chill. You'll be fine. This is nothing to get exercised over. It's really not that bad.

That's the difference between VDOT controlled streets and HOA controlled streets. The HOA had theirs plowed. VDOT is focusing on the major roads.

Our street, according to the latest listing I have, is actually still supposed to be plowed by the developer. THAT explains a lot. Can we PLEASE be turned over to the HOA??????

At this point, I would be happy to see some sand or salt or something sprinkled on the ice on our street. They never did plow yesterday. We were happy to stay home all day yesterday with the kids playing in the snow but would really like to get out to the grocery store today.
