Can anyone recommend a good pediatric dentist? We took our 4 year old to Ashburn Pediatric Dental Center (by Cafe Opera in Broadlands) and they are telling us she needs $2400 worth of work, including full anesthesia and two crowns on her baby teeth...

We just wanted to get a 2nd opinion before we schedule the work... does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks!

You'll be very pleased if you switch to Dr. Valerie Woo. We did, and it was a world of difference. Ashburn Pediatric Dental Center (Dr. Patel) was going to use sedation to pull a tooth and charge a big fee not covered by insurance. Dr. Woo (NOVA Pediatric Dentistry) was able to use only numbing gel for the same procedure. Everyone in Dr. Woo's office was so patient & understanding with my son and he lets them do what they need to do because of their gentle & patient approach.
Even though your child's situation is not the same as mine, Dr. Woo's office is definitely a good place to go for second opinion. Their number is (703) 729-7005. www.NOVApediatricDentist.com
If you do a search on this topic, you'll find other reasons to switch dentists.

We highly recommend Ashburn Children's Dentistry. We've been going there for the past 6 years for both our daughters, and have always been pleased with the care of Dr. Lynda.

We too had issues with Dr. Patel. We tried Dr. Woo, but she would not do her own diagnosis, wanting to only believe Dr. Patel's diagnosis. Which upset us extremely. We've switched to Dr. Mike Gazori in Landsdowne. He is wonderful. My daughter is very comfortable with him. Dr. Patel scared her so much that she couldn't even see our pediatrician without flipping out. We have been very pleased with Dr. Mike.

I would highly recommend Dr. Valerie Woo located off Loudoun County Parkway. She is honest and wonderful with the kids. The office staff are really nice too!!!

Could that have anything to do with insurance, I wonder? Or maybe it was early on and it was out of some sort of respect between dentists at the time, perhaps. I just ask because when we made the switch, Dr. Woo's office said they've received quite a few calls like mine, so maybe they started looking at it differently since your experience. They saw my son, but did say that the insurance wouldn't cover it since we already had the exam for that 6 month time period. I think we did have to pay a little outside of insurance for the visit.

Well I just made an appointment with Dr. Woo's office. I did tell them that I was looking for a 2nd opinion so hopefully she'll give her own diagnosis. I'm only going to bring the x-rays from the other office and not the specifics on their suggested treatment plan.

It seems a little strange to cap a baby tooth, but maybe they do things differently these days.

Dr. Woo did take our insurance and one of the assistant's had come to our daycare for Dental Health month, so we tried her. We had explained we were not happy with our previous dentist, but insisted on getting the records from Dr. Patel. I asked for her opinion and not Dr. Patel and she didn't want to do it, so we never went back.

It is strange to cap a baby tooth, but we had to do it for our child.
