I have an AMD XP 2400, 1gig of ram, and lil ol Geforce 4 Ti4200 and it plays 'good' at 800x600 in medium quality. I haven't tinkered with the settings at all though. For comparison, the same machine played FarCry silky smooth at 1024x768 pretty much fully loaded up.

I went to Best Buy last night, almost got run over by a rude butch cop in the parking lot, and got D3 there on a last minute spur of the momment thing. Was too late to play much last night though.

Definatly a entirely different game then previous iD titles.. feels more like Deus Ex in the beginning in terms of things to do, etc besides just shooting. I think I played for like 30mins and I haven't even fired one shot yet!

I got it today and it definitely scares the crap out of me. Its so dark and the loud sounds when a monster jumps out, how could it not startle you. I can only take about 1 hr at a pop w/this game. But it is different.
I did the flashlight thing in the mirror before i saw your post......that was not a smart thing to do...:)
I have a 2700 gig hz , 9200pro 256, 512 ram and i have to run the game all the way down on the detail and graphics to make it playable. I think the vid card is the bottleneck for this game.
Multiplayer really stinks so far, dont like it, at least right now.

You can buy it at circuit city for $45 starting on friday I hear. So for those who dont have to have it right now, that is the place to get it.
Its fun, just got ot get used to it and get a better graphics card.

You'll get to do plenty of shooting, but I agree ... it is very different from the olden Doom. Of course not as good, nothing will ever be as good because nothing can come even close to the awe when I played the first Doom. I find that the game feels a lot like Halflife, which is good, I liked that game a lot also.

    Have fun. :)

I agree. I see a lot of 1/2 life involved in this. Especially the story line. The story line is almost an exact copy of 1/2life. Even the feel of the game is very comparable to 1/2 life.

Well to be fair half life took a lot of it's story line from the original doom :)

I can't take more than an hour or 2 at a time with the game. It's really creepy. I like it a lot though. From what I hear the game is around 20-25 hours long. That's about 4 hours more than farcry took. That was also a reviewer playing so it may be more like 25-30 hours long. That's a lot of terror.

I think farcry was the longest FPS game I've played. Loved it too.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one that can only do so many hours of it at a time. A couple of hours and I am creeped out enough for the night, which is good, at least I'm not totally forgetting about dark age, lol.

I borrowed it from a friend yesterday and installed it to see how it'd run. ugh! I first tried it at 1024x768 w/ 4x FSAA...really choppy. It didn't get smooth until I went to 800x600 w/ 2x FSAA. :( I also don't like how you have to restart to apply graphics settings...most games can do it on the fly.

For the record: Athlon XP 3200+, 1g Corsair PC3200, Radeon 9600XT, Gigabyte GA-7NNXP mobo

For all of you who have ATI based video cards, here is a good site that has beta drivers and news for them. http://www.teamradeon.com/

The ATI Catalyst 4.9 Official BETA is located there and can be downloaded.

With Doom3, I was having some weird white specks show up and could barely get 1024x768 with no shadows or bump mapping.

After I installed these new drivers and the latest version of DirectX which was released last week, it removed the white specks and sped things up a lot!

Now with the drivers updated - 1600x1200 FS with no choppyness. Looks amazing!

Updated to DX 9.0c and the beta Catalyst drivers...no more lockups at the generals desk! Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, still doesn't run any faster. :)

Cool glad you found it helpful.

Another thing you can try is disabling the secondary monitor if you have one. I have heard that can help improving ATI video card performance with the game.

I loved this game, took me about a week to beat it. I had the settings on Ultra Vid, no problems with my computer and the 7.1 surround sound was awesome! One of the better games I've played in awhile.

    Later,
