Xcelerator Gaming

Hello all! I have gotten board playing online. It used to be such a challenge just getting online and not experiencing lag, or lattency, so when I finnaly got to play it was great. Then I got broadband and it was better for a while. Gameplay improved but I have found that I have become burned out from getting hacked online and loosing.

Then I found this Xcelerator Gaming. (www.xceleratorgaming.com) which is just 10 minutes up the road in Leesburg at the Leesburg Armory. Their last event had over 120 folks bring there own computers to play on the local area network. It was intense! When I clicked and fired off a granade in Battlefield Vietnam I could see the look of intensity of the other players that I was playing on one of the many dedicated servers at the event.

I definitely plan on attending the next event coming up September 18 - 19. I hope to see others there so we can play together. I did see a lot of counter-strike teams competing in the $1000 dollar cash tournament. The best part is that the event is free! No addmission was charged. Like I said I hope to see you there. Game on!

Hhhmmm.... Um... it's like a free computer gaming party. So like how else are people supposed to find out? If there was a charge I am sure they would like get advertising. Sometimes in life things are what they seem and this is a good opertunity to hang out. Just check this article I found out.

Cyberathlete Professional League's (CPL) Extreme World Championships

The annual Cyberathlete Professional League's (CPL) Extreme World Championships were held at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, July 28 - August 1. Sponsored by Hitachi, the event awarded $100,000 in total prize money to the top 16 gaming teams at the end of the five-day event, with the highest-performing team receiving $30,000. Approximately 5,000 gamers participated in the event, including spectators from 55 countries.

The next big thing
When Paul, a 28-year-old gamer began playing computer games twenty years ago, it was purely for social reasons. And while much has changed in gaming technology since the early days of bringing loose change to the local arcade, the primary reason he games today is still social. "The gaming community is unlike any other," says Paul, who manages two PC gaming centers in Dallas, Texas. "A lot of the time, people come into the center, and if their friends aren't there, they leave. For many people in gaming, the social aspect comes first; while the games are secondary." For others, however, gaming is more than a social endeavor, more than a hobby and more than just another way to pass the time. For this growing legion of devoted enthusiasts, gaming is a bona fide profession; a legitimate, respectable way to earn a living. "People used to hear that I'm a 'gamer' and kind of laugh," said Pete, a 21-year-old professional gamer from Germany. "But now they see that I'm being sponsored to travel all over the world and am winning money, and suddenly, being a 'gamer' is a lot cooler."

Why gamers game
Some gamers play for money; others for ego. Some do it to escape reality or to challenge themselves mentally; others enjoy the social camaraderie between members of the same team and the competition that exists between different gaming teams. Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure, when it comes to gaming, you are either a gamer, or you are not. "There is no in-between with gaming," says 30-year-old Jennifer, who has been gaming for five years. "You can't just kind of do it. I game because I enjoy the sense of community among gamers." Charlie, a 31-year-old game developer, says that for many people, playing games is a lot like playing traditional sports. The excitement of competition becomes part of gamers' identities. "Gaming takes a certain amount of natural ability," he says, "just like traditional sports. You can learn and train yourself, but some people are naturally inclined to do better at certain games." Charlie adds that some successful gamers who are well-known in the gaming community become virtual celebrities with dedicated fans. Caryn, 32, games for the same reason people go to movies: to escape - if only temporarily - from reality. "Gaming is an exciting fantasy world," she says. "And it's very mentally engaging, despite the stereotype that it's not. That engagement and concentration is why people get hooked on it."

The bottom line is that getting together and fragging with your friends is Da BOMB!
