Forgive me if this has been discussed before!
I have an appointment with someone who lives over in the new apartments over off of Ryan Road/LCP/mooreview whatever that little area is.
Anyhow I was googling the address b/c it didn't come up on mapquest and then figured out what it was. Within the googling I found that they want to make a huge downtown area complete with a Target (??!) and this is where the metro station is going to ultimately go. Of course what I found was written in '04, projecting it to be done by '07.
I couldn't find out any other info.
Anyone know what's going on over there?
Definitely apartments being built but I can't tell what else. There's always been signs over there speaking of development but it's been slow going.
    Sounds interesting.

Yup that's what I found. My bad; it was written in that groundbreaking was to be in '06 with a projected opening of '07.
When it gets completed it will be interesting. The Brambleton area over there is so nice and quiet, it will change things for sure.

Has anyone heard of any updated projected completion date (or even start date) for the Moorefield Station center as well as Loudoun Station on the other side of the Greenway? I know everything has slowed down, but many of these places (like Dulles Landing and Arcola Town Center near Rt. 50 and 606) have been pushed back a few years or longer. The Shops at Moorefield Station (the smaller local needs center integrated into the condos being built now at the intersection of Ryan and LCP) has been pushed back about two years to a Fall 2011 opening and Dulles Landing/Arcola Center look like a Winter/Spring 2012 opening for phase 1.

I heard that the project is permanently on hold because the Claude Moore people believes the land is worth more than the developer wants to pay.

Speaking of Moorefield Station, I saw a note today that groundbreaking for Moorefiled Fire Co. 23 was postponed due to the weather. Does anyone know where this new station will be located? I couldn't find anything about it on the April fire commission meeting notes. As with many other things, Loudoun County does a poor job of communicating these types of things.

That's their current temporary location until the permanent one is built.

I thought the new site will be where they have begun to break ground on Old Ryan Road and Moorefield Parkway (by the Broadlands Fountain).

If you're getting on the Greenway (eastbound) from Ashburn Village Blvd northbound (coming from the fountains), you can see the graded lot from the entrance ramp.

Or, take Old Ryan Road (by the fountains) and it'll be just down on the left.

The gravel parking lot immediately on your left is where the temporary Park and Ride lot will be for the "Tysons Express" commuter bus service to Tyson's Corner (starts in June, I believe).

I was curious too, where does the name "Moorefield" come from?

Claude Moore. He owned the property. He is also the source of the name for the Claude Moore park and rec center in Sterling.
