To those that for whatever reason do not already have a recycle bin from Patriot, or are hoarding them for some purpose, I'd appreciate it if you didn't keep taking mine. This is twice now in the last 3 months that I put my recycling out, and when I come home from work the bin is gone.
I know it was a windy day yesterday. I walked completely up and down my street, and looked in the common area to no avail. Just like a couple months ago, when it wasn't even windy.
Just because it may have been blown near your home doesn't mean it is now yours. Get off your lazy butt and go to the nature center and get a FREE recycle bin yourself, which I now have to go do yet again.....

    Rant over.

Stencil, paint, or use self adhesive numbers and put your address on all sides. We always had a bin sitting in front of the house but it was always someone else's caked with liquid detergent and food stuff until we labeled it. Maybe this will solve your problem.

Definitely label it on the off chance it's merely lost, not stolen. I wrote our address on our trash can and recycle bins for the times they are blown away. Which reminds me...we got a new can and I need to label it...

While you're labeling your recycling bin, folks, how's about figuring out a way to not let your bins overflow and secure your beer cans and papers which are, as we speak, flying all over the street right now. The Patriot guys are not paid to run down the street after flying objects. The Broadlands is the new Windy City, and has been since we moved here years ago. I'm not sure of the solution, but maybe someone has one. Also, regarding missing bins. One was found and we (after checking with neighbors) stuck it under the community mailbox since it was flinging into our cars....and it sat for a week. It's trash now.

We were also having this problem (even with labels) until we requested a large, rolling bin like the trash one. We are really trying to recycle everything we can, which means the split should be close to 50/50 anyway. And since we moved to the large bin, there have been no issues at all. I also don't feel like it takes up significantly more room as I had the smaller bin on the floor of my garage and the footprint isn't THAT much larger.

So you're telling me that I can get a larger recycle bin? That would be primo, since we end up with Harris Teeter paper bags full of recyclables each week sitting next to our teeny bin.

You can get a 64 gallon rolling bin from Patriot for $25. They cost A LOT more at Home Depot. It also helps with the smell in the garrage since there is a lid. We had 2 of the bins and they were always overflowing and missing on windy days.

We got one or the larger ones as well and it is much better. No need to put heavy things on the top since the wind is always blowing. We were using 3 bins, so it takes up less space and easier to handle. Plus, no one can see how many wine/beer bottles are in there....:)

Call Patriot and give them a credit card number to charge. They will deliver it within a week. I then gave my old bin to someone else who needed an extra regular one.
