My old 1st gen iPod Touch has suffered a fatal fall causing the front glass to crack. My kids loved to play with it, so instead of spending hundreds on a new one, I was going to buy a new glass and do the replacement myself.

It occurred to me that if I could find someone willing to sell me their old Touch at a cheap enough price, that might make more sense than buying the part and spending the 2 hours needed to tear down and put back together my broken one.

So, does anyone have an old iPod Touch (any gen/model) that they would like to sell cheap? I can get the part I need for $40, so that should give you some guidance in regards to what I mean by cheap ;) I'll pay cash and even come to you to pick it up if you want. Let me know what you have and your price.

    Thanks!

No, this is a 1st gen iPod Touch that I have. Every gen is slightly different in regards to glass and digitizer. Same goes with iPhones. You need to get the part specific to your model. I did find one on Amazon, but reviews showed the supplier to be less than honest (ships slightly different part that won't fit, etc).

Yea, I checked them out during my research. They sell the part I need for $60, or I can have them repair it for $90. I think paying $90 to repair a 1st generation iPod is simply not worth it, especially when folks are selling used ones for much less than that.

I like to tinker, so I don't mind repairing it myself, but I was just wondering if it made sense to buy the part and do it myself, or just buy a used one that someone has had in a drawer for the past year and would like to get rid of.

Thanks for the tip/recommendation though, I appreciate it :)

Thanks; while the music playing is a need, it's the 'apps' that the kids love to play with. So I either need to repair this iPod Touch, or get my hands on another one.
