I checked the schedule this morning and it said that the pool opens at 11:30. To be extra sure I called the pool and spoke to the staff on duty. He said that they were already open to the public. We load up with block pack the kids and head to the pool only to find out that they are not opening to the public because of swim team. The staff said that the pool will be closed until mid afternoon, likely 1:00PM. Can the HOA please update the newsletter to reflect the actaul times that swim team plans to use the pool. Thanks!

11:30 is the correct time the pool was to have opened!! I am working right now to find out where the other information came from and correct it. When ever there is a swim meet on Sat morning at SW the pool opens at 11:30 to the public. That does not mean the swim team is gone by 11:30 but the pool is open at 11:30. ALL lifeguards have now been informed of this information

Per the newsletter the summer hours were to start on June 19 - where the pool would be open till 9 pm daily. When I got there yesterday it closed at 8 pm and the guards were not sure if the summer hours start on June 29 or July 1st.
Does anyone know when it will start staying open later? We almost never can make it there before 7pm and it would be nice to have 2 hours instead of barely 45 mins for the kids to swim

As far as I know, the only pool open until 9pm is the Community Pool on Waxpool.

CC is always open until 9pm
SW is open until 8pm Memorial day to June 30th and Aug 1through Labor day
For the month of July SW is open until 9pm.

    Hope that elevates any confusion

I love the pool. Being a teacher, it is what I look forward to from about April until the end of the year, but I have to say that this year I have had a few aggrevating experiences with the life guards. Actually, it is whoever is running the gate. Three times already this year, I have handed my pool pass in only to not have it be there when I leave. It has gotten "misplaced". They always find it at closing time, but then I have to go and retrieve it from them at a later time. I think the problem is coming with the language barrier that so many of them have. The other day they had me looking through the pool passes to find mine, because they couldn't understand what I was saying. This is just a rant, needed to vent, and was wondering if anyone else is having similar experiences at SW pool.

We got there around 2pm without knowledge of this event. Went there Saturday as well as Sunday afternoons. Now my 7 yr old got her first set of swimmers ears ever and she's been swimming since age 2. Could it be possible the water levels were not up to standard after the event? 1 hr cleanup time for diarreah doesn't seem long enough....

Swimmers ear has nothing to do with the level of chemicals - it has to do with water temp and sitting in the ear for too long. My guess is since it has been so warm this summer the water is a lot warmer then it has been in the past and that is why you are dealing with an infection this year vs others.

As for the chemical levels they were all back in accordance with the CDC regulations or the pool would not have reopened. New criteria was established a few years ago that shows that cleaning the pool and super chlorinating it for 1 hour results in the same level of water cleanliness as a full cycle of the pumps

Thanks for putting my mind at ease, Staci. It hasn't been fun dealing with this issue when we enjoy the pools and swim lessons so much! My dr. said she could continue the lessons - do you see that a lot in swim team? Any tips?

My sister and I use to deal with it all the time. Our Dr had us put a drop of rubbing alcohol in each ear after we got out of the water. This was suppose to dry out the ear and prevent the warm water from festering. This advice was give to me years ago soI would ask your Dr before I use it now days since so much has changed. I do still use it with my girls and as long as I do it we have had no ear infections.

Probably more information than you need, but an article worth reading! http://www.bing.com/health/article/mayo-123192/Swimmers-ear?q=swimmer's+ear

We just got back from the ENT with my son. He gets swimmers ear ALL summer long! We were told today to use an equal mix of rubbing alcohol and white vinegar to flush the ear after swimming. We'll certainly be doing that because those earaches hurt! We sure don't want anymore -- hopefully the flushing will help . . .

It does work. I can attest to it as I always had swimmers ear as well. I just was not sure that was what they were still prescribing :)

I haven't ever heard of the vinegar part. But the cool part about the alcohol is that it actually mixes with the water in the ear and helps it evaporate, while also killing off any bacteria. I had a very very bad episode of SEar a few years go. I go the alcohol preventative route after each dousing in the pool now.

I usually skip the pool and just drink some alcohol. Never had a problem with Swimmer's Ear since I started doing this... :p
