My church is helping a family through our Friendship Bridge ministry who is going through a very tough time. Their 4 year old daughter has been in and out of Georgetown Hospital due some complications with an organ transplant. They have left the husband/dad in Mississippi because of work and his eventual deployment to Iraq. In the midst of all this the mom, who is a nurse, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The mom and her daughter are renting an apartment in Ashburn so they can both get treatment but since they also have a house in MS, they are in need of household items. If you have any of the items listed below, please let me know as soon as possible. (We would love for them to be in really good shape or possibly new.) I may receive another list of items they need in addition to these. This is only what they have thought of, so far.

    Basic Kitchen Items Including:

    Pots/Pans
    Utensils
    Plates/Bowels
    cutting Board
    Toaster
    Cups/Glasses
    Knives
    Hot mits
    Mixing Bowls
    Baking Pans
    9 x 13 Cassorole Dish
    Trash can

    Other items:

    2 Bathroom Trash cans
    TV
    Sheets - queen, full
    Towels
    Sofa
Chairs for a table Ann is letting me borrow
    End table
    Lamps

Please PM me if you would like to contribute any of these items or financially to this family.

    Thanks for your kindness!

The two sets of sheets and towels are covered. As items come in, I'll post them so we don't have duplicates.

    Thanks!

Gosh... it's not much, but looking at this list reminded me that I have two bathroom trashcans (and a fuzzy bathmat/rug) just sitting in my closet not being used. I'd be happy to offer them to this family.

We've had quite a few offers for donations come in so far, so here's an update. Also, the daughter is extremely immune-compromised, so anything that is being donated needs to be clean. Thanks!

    We still need:

Baking/cooking things (someone is already getting mixing bowls and dish towels)
Two blankets (one queen, one full)
One queen size comforter or comforter set
    End table
    Sofa
    Toaster
    Blender
    Knives (paring)
    Pots/pans
    Kitchen trashcan
    Vaccuum
    Kitchen chairs
    Plunger
    Toilet paper/paper towels/napkins
    Scissors
    Stapler
Some toys and books for the 4 year old daughter (she loves educational toys and play food, could use a few dolls, maybe a doll bed or doll stroller...she doesn't have any of her toys with her right now)
    Gift cards to Target/Wal Mart

We DON'T need (items already being donated):
    Dishes, glasses or utensils
    Cutting board/oven mitts/dish towels
    Sheets
    Lamps
    Towels
    27" TV
    Toaster oven
    Two bathroom trashcans/bathmat

Thanks for the donations so far! The people on this forum are always so generous!

Could they use a blue recliner chair? It's in used but nice condition with all parts working.

We have had a huge response so far. At this point, the family still needs a vacuum. Otherwise, I think gift cards to Target, Wal Mart, gas stations, or grocery stores would be great.

Also, we are in need of some help transporting the sofa, TV, and end tables that are being donated. Does anyone know of anyone with a pickup truck and a guy or two that would be willing to help move these items to her new apartment on Rte. 7 Sat. Aug 14th? I'm also going to need a hand getting all of the things I'm storing at my house for her, b/c it definitely isn't going to fit in my minivan.

Thanks everyone for helping this family out with such generosity and speed! You all rock! (Sorry, my kids picked this little guy out!) :butthead:

The mom just had more testing done and it looks like the cancer is worse than they thought. Just wanted to throw that out there for those that are following this in the event you may want to pray for her. I'll know more soon.

Thank you to everyone who has so generously offered to donate things and help in the future. We live in an amazing community filled with wonderful people.

    Take care.

The mom's mother is coming to stay with her to help and will be working from home while staying at the apartment in order to bring some money in.

    We now need:

    - A desk with a pull out keyboard tray
    - An office chair
    - A TV stand

Please let me know as soon as possible if you or someone you know might have these items to donate.

    Thanks!

I can help provide transport for heavier items. I have a 6x12 enclosed trailer and a truck that can be used.
Let me know if they are needed.

At this point, we've received almost everything that was on the list (a huge thank you to everyone who participated!) except for Size 4/4t girl's clothing. So, if you know of anyone that has 4/4t girl's clothing, please pass this on.

If anyone still wants to contribute, gift cards to Target and WalMart would be perfect. She still has lots of little things to get like lightbulbs, screwdriver, hammer, groceries, etc.

What a wonderful neighborhood and community we have. The mom wants to thank everyone for their huge support...she took pictures of everything and is creating a scrapbook to show her daughter when her daughter grows up (and to send to her husband).

Also, a big thanks to those that helped transport the large items. I couldn't have done it without you guys!
