Or they could just build another east/west road to get us from various points in Ashburn to route 28. As much as I love, love, love living here, I think it's insane that there is only one way in and out of Ashburn without having to pay a toll or hike to and from route 7. And they have peppered this one road with 12 or 13 traffic lights, none of which are timed properly. Has anyone noticed the increase in dump truck traffic on Waxpool the past few months? I think they are starting to avoid the Greenway and they FLY up the road. It is a crazy, crazy mess.

Yes! I've been stuck down by Verizon and for 4 or more cycles in the past.......... b/w 8-9am. Things have gotten better since they added in the 2nd right hand turn lane. But trying to get through there at 8-815 some mornings, it can take a good 10 minutes if I'm back by Verizon.

The dump trucks have been busy hauling away the hill at the corner of Waxpool/Truro Parish.

That 3rd straight through lane (that used to be a left hand turn) at the LCP/Waxpool intersection has gone. What are they doing exactly? That 3rd lane used to alleviate some of the back-up and ease the merge of 2 lanes into 3 at that intersection.

Wouldn't an over/underpass with on/off ramps be better?

True, but aside from the money aspect ( I thought the feds were just throwing out money to the states :) ) even with some long term time it would be a better pay off.
Look at the various I-95/I-495/I-395 expansions. They don't seem to pay off very well with what they have done.

Then again maybe I'm just a bit annoyed with spending 3 hours on I-95 to drive back and fourth from Stafford this weekend. That's 3 hours one way which always has to be congested.

the mixing bowl project was a major overhaul, and while painful during construction, has been a wonderful payoff. it can be confusing when first coming through...but i remember back in the 90's...it was a parking lot from gallows all the way to 95...and the wilson bridge to 95 on the inner loop. 95 still sucks...but they fixed the beltway issues (until they decided to add HOT lanes...)

I remember it back in '94. It was a mess. Still is a mess :)
This past weekend I was jammed on I-95 north from Quantico until 495.
I was also jammed on 495-95 all the way to Quantico.
Though granted 95 south was actually backed up all the way to Richmond so that is a different problem.

I have not been around the Springfield interchange in awhile, is that still a big mess or did they fix that?

Thanks I'll have to try that, right now I take 28 down to 234 to some roads I can't remember the name.

I took 28 all the way down before but that has it's own problems during rush hour.

Shhhhh, please don't tell people about that route. It gets more and more crowded everytime I take that drive. Even the Sheetz @ 29&17 is plugged with people.

If you drive the south side of the beltway.. you've already seen it.

We used to drive through DC to get to Rt50 the beltway was so bad
