so I would consider this a crediable source: Supervisor Stevens Miller just posted via FB a few minutes ago:

Stevens Miller I'm informed by LCSO that an individual originally considered a possible suspect was confirmed NOT to be the person they are looking for, and that the search continued. Please don't jump to any conclusions just because someone is detained or questioned. Stay inside when LCSO advises, and thanks for remaining calm and alert

Sadly, the landscapers hired by the HOA are outside working during all this. You'd think someone would let them have the day off today.

That really is too bad and very unfair. I'm assuming they have closed the pool? Any updates? The kids and I are frozen until we hear positive news.

The pool was still open when I looked.
The landscapers nearby seem to be sitting around, which is probably better than having them moving around and one of them getting jumped.

I'm confused as to why the pool is still open, since the guy was obviously close by. Wouldn't it make sense to close the local pools until he is found by police? Less people outdoors, easier to spot the suspect. And the more obvious reason - an armed robber just yards away.

why would they do that? make people stop working because of a crime? if that was the case the DC sniper would have cost NoVA millions.

they should be made AWARE, and are probably a great resource in tracking him down. i'd think this perp would think twice before trying to attack a crew with sharp tool and multiple strong men around- they aren't exactly the smartest hostage material...

and by smartest i mean the CRIMINAL would be REALLY foolish to choose from THAT pool of folks if he was going to do anyone any harm. not that the landscapers aren't smart... :)

To me, the scariest part of situations like this is the "code white" mindset of the vast majority of my fellow Ashburners.
    http://www.tacticalintelligence.net/blog/the-color-code-of-awareness.htm

I saw a couple of people walking their dogs and woman pulling her kids in a wagon past a cop with his M-16 rifle drawn! None looked very concerned about the seriousness of the situation. :screwy:

My son's summer camp at Kindercare beside the church on corner of Claiborne and Waxpool was on lock-down but the Sheriff's office came by about 30 minutes ago and told them the situation was "contained" and they no longer needed to be on lock-down. Whatever that means.

I just got a call a few minutes ago -- Public Safety Alert -- that says they are still looking for the suspect.

Good to know, we got a similar call a while ago and if I remember correctly they stated to remain in doors.

Sharp tools won't do you any good when there's a crazy person pointing a gun at you. The workers could easily be relocated to another area to work until this is resolved. It's a matter of common sense and respect for people's safety. I saw a little girl riding her bike at the tail-end of Ridgeway and Highview Trail. I ran out to yell to her, but she was already gone. I, too, did not receive the email alert from Loudoun County, but thankfully heard about this through a friend/neighbor. I'm spreading the word to others in the area who might not be aware. There's nothing to take lightly when a deranged and armed thief is on the loose.

I went over to the Harris Teeter and I didn't see a single LEO. However on the way back there was one sheriff vehicle on Demott. Maybe the suspect moved elsewhere or they are not searching anymore. I have not heard the chopper for awhile.

Redon, do you think this guy walked into Subway and politely asked them to empty their cash registers?

Police department told us that there was no reason to close the pool. Several people called and asked. They felt the more people there were out the better chance someone would see him. They did advise to not be out walking by yourself but that there was no reason to bring everyone inside. Since this is their area of expertise the HOA listened to them.

Safety in numbers. Better to be out with others in a larger group than to be at home alone where someone could break in. Though I wonder how many people are actually aware.
