no- i think he was armed and the report did not say it was a GUN. just like the alert SAID. sorry- i don't ASSUME things. you don't think they would have said it was a gun if they knew that it was?

Hmmm...I don't want to make assumptions either, but I figured the suspect had a gun since there are so many police cars and a helicopter. That's big stuff, right? The situation appeared to be very serious (not that a person carrying a knife or whatever wouldn't be!)

It has been quiet over on Demott and Waxpool for over an hour now, so hopefully all is well and no one is hurt?? I pray that's the case!

Just made a run to Dulles Town Center - LEOs all over the place up there. On the way back tehre seemed to be some sort of hubbub on the Toll Road right under the Ryan Road bridge. Didn't stop to look - had to stop by HT for my Boddington's!!!

That answers that separate unrelated question I had about all the motorcycle noise going down the toll road :)

Any idea on the mall situation? I was over there as well.

Just got home and it was actually quite odd to drive down Claiborne and up Ridgeway with not a person outside at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon.

Given the time of the attempt, a fit person on foot could have made it to the mall by then. But, I'm just guessing here.

LCSO Investigates Armed Robbery of Subway in Broadlands Shopping Center

Loudoun County, VA: The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the armed robbery of a Subway restaurant located in Ashburn, Virginia.

Around 11 a.m. on August 20, 2010 Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 43100 block of Broadlands Center Plaza. An unknown suspect entered the store, displayed a firearm, and demanded cash. The suspect was last seen on foot.

The suspect was described as a Black male with a thin build and short cropped hair. He was further described as being in his early to mid-20’s, approximately 6’ tall, and was last seen wearing a baggy white t-shirt and dark blue pants.

Following the robbery the Sheriff’s Office received several reports from residents of a possible suspect on foot in the area. A ground and aerial search was conducted by members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Field Operations Division, K9 Unit and the Fairfax County Police Department helicopter. No suspect was located.

If anyone has any information regarding the identity of the suspect, you are asked to contact Investigator M. Halley of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475. If the caller wishes to remain anonymous they are asked to contact Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919. If the information provided to Loudoun Crime Solvers leads to an arrest and indictment, the caller could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.

Just talked w/Kraig Troxell at LCSO, who said they are still ISO the alleged robber from the Broadlands incident, but that unless he lives here, he is likely no longer in the area. And that people can go out and resume their day (for those staying indoors because of this)...

Of course if you see anything that the police should be aware of, call them.

Do you kind folks really think that a "black man" would really rob a store in Ashburn without a car.:shakehead: Most likely he parked it a block away and ran to it to cruise down the toll road with the robbery receipts. Stay calm and go about your daily activities.:indiff2:

Yes, typically along major highway's you'll find people commit crimes and haul @ss down the road. This guy is probably long gone.

That would explain police presence at the Subway at Junction Plaza at 1130 and police on Demott and two more cars on Claiborne.

Yeah, I'm sure the number of murders, home invasions, burglaries, graffiti, etc. will go waaaay up once the metro gets here. Oh, wait a minute, we've already had all those things in Ashburn! I guess bad things happen no matter where you live.

Thank goodness we live in a neighborhood where neighbors watch out for each other, report suspicious activity to the police, and have a neighborhood forum (and grapevine) to alert people! And a pretty responsive sheriff's dept, kudos to them!

Thanks to everybody who let a neighbor or friend know what was going on, informed the authorities about what they saw (or didn't see), and posted on here about what they knew....
