I have an antsy preschooler and an overabundance of inedible cereal. Is there a good place around here to feed some ducks?

There are a lot of geese at the pond in Brambleton, the pond in front of the Community Church off Rt.7. And I've never been to the nature preserve but I'm sure there are animals there that would appreciate feeding times.

I know it is disappointing, but not only is feeding them bread and cereal bad for them, what's not eaten fouls the wetland area. The turtles do enjoy very tiny amounts of greens and fruits which are acually part of their natural diet, but again too much will be bad for them and the wetlands. You might also consider a few meal worms or bloodworms...but, that said wild animals should be observed and enjoyed. Left to their own devices they will find the natural food that is best for them.

I guess you are right. I usually don't think about ducks as wildlife. But I suppose they are. What are the chances of actually seeing turtles and/or ducks at duck pond or by HT?

It is rare when you DON'T see turtles or ducks at the boardwalk. On a sunny day you will see many turtles sunning themselves on the fallen logs and on the concrete that supports the bridge...and don't forget the abundant bird life...I was there in the spring with a friend who is an avid "birder" and he counted no less than 10 species in a 20 minute period!
