Well - we woke up this morning to take our early AM walk and found our mailbox was ripped off the post and in the street. Walking further down our street, we found four more mailboxes were ripped off posts and three on another street during our walk. Guess those kids must get a lot of laughs doing this. Not funny, I'm not laughing.

just curious... why refer to vandalism as "pranks"? destruction/damage of any kind is not a prank...

Our mail box was down too, as were those of other houses on our side of the street. We did put a call in to the non emergency number and they said a deputy would be by to check on things. It is sad when kids think property damage is a funny thing...

when they stop getting away with it it will stop happening- especially when mommy and daddy are out hundreds of bucks paying for the damage.

Wish I knew what time....unfortunately this time around, our dog was in our bedroom and didn't hear anything. However, I was having trouble falling asleep last night and around midnight I heard a car go down our street with really loud music playing, but I didn't think anything of it....but that's all I heard. A co-worker said kids drive down the street with a baseball bat and just the mailboxes off. This has got to stop......

I am not trying to be dramatic, but here is a FACT: Mailboxes are considered federal property.

An excerpt from Aug 20, 2010 USPS Press Release:
"Mailboxes are protected by federal law, and crimes against them and the mail they contain are considered a federal offense. Violators can be fined or imprisoned for each act of vandalism."

    Full PR found here: http://www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/localnews/mi/2010/mi_2010_0820.htm

I would also recommend that those who have had their mailbox vandalize contact the United States Postal Inspection Service (see link below) or the local PO in Ashburn:

    https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/

Again this is a serious Federal Crime.

if it's the same punks who were roaming around LAST thursday- it's time to REALLY do something about this. I'm sure if the on- emergency number is flooded with calls from those of us who have been victimized/vandalized, it'll light a fire.

you know, the high schools and middle schools should put something out about this, and even warn the kids that this is NOT fun and games.

I've noticed a pattern of Sunday night/Monday morning and Wednesday night/Thursday morning which correponds to the trash pick up.
