Cub Scouts is fun with a purpose - character building, life skills, citizenship and much more - for boys entering 1st through 5th grade. If you're interested in learning about Pack 1483, which meets at Hillside, or Pack 1483, which meets at Mill Run, be sure to attend Join Scouting Night, 7pm on Tuesday 9/21, at the school you choose. You don't have to attend the school to be a part of the pack that meets there. Parents and prospective scouts are both invited to attend Join Scouting Night - all will learn more about scouts, parents will be given sign-up details and the boys will play and do fun stuff with some of the older scouts (that's the plan at Hillside; probably the same at Mill Run).

I assume "Scouting Night" includes the Girl Scouts/Brownies also?

Also, new this year, there will be district representatives at Our Saviors Way Lutheran Church at the corner of Claiborne and Waxpool, from 8-10pm that same night to take completed applications, so you can fill them out at home and drop them off.

    Some more interesting scout statistics:

What happens to a Scout? For every 100 boys who join Scouting, records indicate that:

•RARELY will one be brought before the juvenile court system
    •2 will become Eagle Scouts
•17 will become future Scout volunteers
•18 will develop a hobby that will last through their adult life •8 will enter a vocation that was learned through the merit badge system
•1 will use his Scouting skills to save his own life
•1 will use his Scouting skills to save the life of another person

Scouting's alumni record is equally impressive. A recent nation- wide survey of high schools revealed the following information:

•85% of student council presidents were Scouts
•89% of senior class presidents were Scouts
•80% of junior class presidents were Scouts
•75% of school publication editors were Scouts
•71% of football captains were Scouts

    Scouts also account for:

•64% of Air Force Academy graduates
    •68% of West Point graduates
    •70% of Annapolis graduates
    •72% of Rhodes Scholars
    •85% of F.B.I. agents
•26 of the first 29 astronauts

Absolutely! Check out www.pack1483.org which has info about the pack that meets at Hillside Elementary. The leaders there can help connect you with Pack 1484 at Mill Run or the other area packs if needed. 1483 meets on the 4th Monday, 7-8 at Hillside, and there are two pack meetings left in this year. There's a spring family campout and numerous camps and activities over the summer, which will be a good way to get to know everyone before the next full year starts in the fall. Current 1st-4th graders can join this year; current kindergarteners can could begin participating over the summer and officially join in the fall, and current 5th graders should be looking at Boy Scouts instead. I hope this info is helpful, and encourage you to make contact through the website for more info.

According to the Goose Creek District website, Join Scouting Night this year is 9/20. There are usually fliers sent home from school about it.

If your son attends Hillside and have specific questions regarding our Cub Scout Pack or how to join Scouting, please feel free to email me at cubmaster@pack1483.org.

The Join Scouting Night is indeed on September 20 and there should be a flyer coming home at the beginning of school with the exact time.
