Where can you get the daily neighborhood crime reports? Is there a link?

How many cars on Ridgeway were egged? I know several people who live in that area, and other than on this board, they haven't heard anything about it.

As far as I know more than several were hit...some of them saw my car that was egged as well....I can say that none of us are really happy about this. Consensus is: What did any of us do to deserve this treatment and don't the kids have anything better to do than just waste their $$ buying eggs to throw around?

I am beginning to wonder how much MORE vandalism is this neighborhood going to tolerate before something is done? Im beginning to wonder who would like to get involved in a neighborhood watch program...I am foreseeing that this vandalism is going to continue unabated and more people are going to incur significant costs of repairing the damage. Maybe we all could bring this up at the HOA meeting and discuss how we can rein in our kids because I'm told that most of the vandalism/pranking
is being caused by our own residents and/or kids. We all just DON'T know WHO is doing it but we need to collectively work together to put a stop to it before neighbors start to get angry at one another for damages that they sustained at the hands of another neighbor's kids or whatever. I'd hate to see neighbors suing another neighbor civilly for damages. I think early intervention is the key here. My former neighborhood where I grew up still has a successful neighborhood watch program and more than plenty of times, the cops have picked up an errant kid and brought to the station to have their parents picked up. At that time, usually the homeowner wants a tresspassing order placed on the kid so the kid can no longer be welcome on that neighbor's property. Usually, that works well with that neighborhood and MUCH of their vandalism had gone down as a result of those patrols. In the end, values stay up and neighborhood is a desired place to live.

Trust me, prospective homeowners/realtors DO read this forum and if they see widespread vandalism going on, they will alert their clients of this issue and whether they want to "put up" with the crap or not. Who wants to live in a neighborhood where vandalism and property damage occurs quite a bit??

Here is the link from LCSO to view the crime reports. http://www.crimereports.com/

Interestingly enough this report, nor the ones I receive specifically as chairperson of Neighborhood Watch have ever reported any of the vandalism Capricorn has claimed on this forum. So Capricorn you may want to follow up with LCSO to make sure your multiple vandalism's are being properly recorded.

I found out that they only report on the report SIGNIFICANT property damage as its more for the MEDIA themselves to report on. Not sure why its that. I surmise that the media communication offices (if theres such a name as that!) at the Sheriff's office exclude "pranking" or incidents that aren't resulting in damage or property loss.

I'll have to give the officer a call and see if they do include this stuff on the "media" reports. Sigh....

Uh oh...I just re-read the sheriff's report and it does say "These reports are NOT all-inclusive for cases reported, but only those noted for MEDIA INTEREST". Caps are mine alone for emphasis.

So I guess that answers the question, right? :(

FWIW there are eggshells on my driveway.
It's too bad people have spent time and money on this...but it WAS Halloween and well, I was a kid once too.
I remember I had a friend who was a passenger in a car and threw an egg at a boy on a bike one day (he was probably early teens). The boy came over to the car (as they were at a light, I guess), and kicked the side of the door in. The girl who OWNED the car...well...HER parents SUED the girl who THREW THE EGG at the kid for damages to the vehicle. And I do believe they won. That was the end of that friendship.
Moral? Friends don't let friends egg stuff.

msflynn is not talking about the media site - she's talking about the more detailed reports that the sherriff department shares with communities and neighborhood watch programs - which we know include things not on the website.

Flynnibus- Got a private msg from her and fully understand that she's getting diff. reports than what the public gets. It disturbs me that they're not including stuff in the report and I don't get it. I told her that I'll have to give them a ring this evening to see what's the deal.

All - I am looking at this surprised.... Kids will be kids...and egging is stupid, but come on.... Putting up cameras around your house just seems so extreme.

This is a super family friendly community, and of course, everywhere in the world, you will find kids acting out and doing things like senseless vandalism (I know I am not innocent to that) - it isnt right but it happens.....

Get angry, but get over it............................ be happy you are complaining about this vs. something that is significant.

Reality is, I would guess a few hours of having egg on your carr will do less damage then the salt that is thrown on the road during the winter

Nope - egg hits actually fracture and flake paint on impact. You literally get a bullseye type paint damage where the egg hit. It's amazing given what an egg is, but it's true. Egg hit = instant paint damage. It's like being key'd but in a smaller area.

Easier said than done....I hope you never have your car damaged by some stupid kids. Some kids may throw a rock at the car for fun damaging the car you have. Breaking your window, paint being damaged, having car tires slashed, etc. are ALL acts of vandalism and that includes eggs being thrown at the car chipping your paint and even damaging the paint itself after the crap sits on the car and you aren't aware of it.

If it happens to YOU, then let's see if you'll be happy being on the receiving end of some kid's wrath. I'll make a bet that you'll be crossing your arms and saying "oh they are just kids" while you fork over your $$$ (or spend time) fixing/cleaning/scraping the crap off your car. Let's see if you can enjoy that because MOST of us DON'T!

If you have the money to burn to fix the car or tolerance to handle kids throwing stuff at your house/car, then good for you!

Yep, had an Audi ~7 years ago that got egged. That's pretty much what it looks like.

I'm just guessing but I'll wager the writer for the post who thought it was so "authentic" getting egged was not driving a new Mercedes :)

I havent had time to read all these posts yet but while we are looking for the eggers, looking to see if eggs are missing in our refridgerators, can you please look for my son's beloved bike.

It was stolen the same night as the eggings. Navy blue with red pegs on the back wheels. I will get more details and post them. Why steal a 12 year old's favorite thing? None of these crimes make any sense.....

I agree with you that NONE of this makes any sense. Perhaps the folks ditched the bike on someone else's property or on common grounds or even int he woods?

It may be funny but if the eggs had hit the people instead of the cars, it would be considered an assault and the kids can be charged with it. Most kids don't realize that their actions do have consequences that goes with it.

Don't know how this will work on your car, but it may be worth a try.

    1. Clean an egged car as soon as possible. The longer you allow the eggs to sit on the paint, the better the chances of your paint job getting ruined.

    2. Remove all visible egg shells from the exterior of the car. Pick them off by hand. Washing the car while egg shells remain regardless of their size, can cause scratching to the car's surface.

    3. Prepare a solution of 1 gallon warm to hot water and 1/4 cup white vinegar. Pour into a spray bottle.

    4. Spray the solution onto the egged area. Do not be stingy with the spray. You want to soak the egg and allow the vinegar to neutralize the egg.

    5. Allow the solution to set for at least 5 minutes. Spray once more.

    6. Rub the egg off your car in gentle circular motions with a clean towel. The egg should be easily removed. If this is not the case re-spray the solution onto your car and repeat.

    Good Luck!
