I have some programmable thermostats ready to replace our old Honeywell mercury thermostats installed by the builder and the wiring looks nothing like what is provided in the new digital Honeywell installation manual. The thermostats are the old rectangle ones. We are in Broadlands in an Engle (I think) single family home built in 2000.

Does anyone have some DIY advice on replacing this type of thermostat?

    Thanks!!

letters - its all about the letters. Look for them on the wires and if not labeled, look for them on the box being taken out.

These things are almost entirely universal... its just a matter of finding/IDing the wires properly

First, make sure you get a compatible thermostat. They're not all the same. Different systems require different thermostats.

We replaced our Honeywell's with Lux TS9000TS (touch screen programmable). Rated great by Consumer Reports at the time, although I had one that I had to exchange because it had a blotch on the screen. There were several wiring diagrams, if you get stuck let me know and I can pop the cover and take a pic of how I hooked it up.
