I was very happy that I found all the information about what is recycled on the HOA website's trash & recycling section (but I did have to get the phone number for Patriot from my trash can). I called Patriot about putting a tv at the curb tomorrow.

Things I learned during the phone call:

    • The information on our website is out of date.
    • The special collection day is Wednesday, not Thursday.
    • You need to call ahead to set up a collection appointment.
    • You have to pay for certain items to be collected (at least $25 for the tv I was going to put out)
    • They probably wouldn't recycle the tv, but instead would just put it in the landfill with the rest of the trash. (Not sure if this was if I put it out on Thursday, but I got the impression that it was always so I'm not risking it).
I took my dead tv, old cds, various extra cords, a non-functioning laptop and one monitor to Best Buy and recycled it all. I had to pay $10 for each item that had a screen, but I received $10 gift cards to Best Buy for each $10 I paid. www.bestbuy.com/green

I have just sent an email to Patriot asking them for updated information regarding pick ups and recycling. I'm sorry if this caused you some inconvenience. Thank you for posting the information about Best Buy. I am going to suggest we put that in an upcoming newsletter to encourage folks to recycle their electronics in the "greenest" way possible.

Thanks Maureen. Would love to see Best Buy recycling info in the newsletter.

And the only inconvenience was getting the tv into the truck rather than just getting it to the curb. (Best Buy helped me get it out). I'm just glad I called to check.

Get on these guy's mailing list:
    http://www.pcrecycler.net/services/drop/

They have an electronics drop off & paper shredding event once per month.

    They recycle EVERYTHING.

I've taken stuff there before and enjoyed the experience. I'm on their mailing list as well, and they just notified me of an event tomorrow (Jan. 8) from 10am-2pm.

    http://www.pcrecycler.net/services/drop/monthly-collection-events/

They charge anywhere from $10 to $30 for monitors and TVs and $1/lb. for diskettes, CDs, and tapes, but everything else can be dropped off for free!! Check out all the stuff they accept...
