stealing mail is a federal offense, so maybe they won't just get a slap on the wrist

    Update!!!!

I got my wireless router tonight :)
The officer Gastaldo was here not too long and dropped off the wireless router for us.
One of the teenagers already has his record with the police, and he will be charged for felony.

TeamDonzi, I was worried about you, and asked for your safety and the Officer said that he has made sure that they would not be able to recognize you or your car.
He did say he was able to do his job well because of your good description, and prompt response.

I thought it was the bad day for me but turned out to be completely the opposite!
From the good police work to the good neighbor watch, and someone like you to go out of your way to help, this is incredible experience. So THANK YOU again to the officer Gastaldo, TeamDonzi and anyone who has helped to solve this issue so quickly.

I submitted the survey tonight! They did a wonderful job.

I'm thrilled! I wonder how they got it back, unless they had it tucked in their clothing when they bailed from the car! Yay!!

There were literally packages at every other door today, so they could have made a bundle. I didn't realize that UPS packages are the same as mail, so I do hope that the guy gets whacked and I hope he lives far away and forgets what I look like!

UPS is not the same as mail - its just a private courier. No different then your bike courier.

But if they stole enough stuff - it becomes a felony by value. If you steal something from someone, but not off their person, worth at least $200 - it's grand larceny and a felony.

Steve, if the package was sent USPS, would that be like stealing mail?

Truth is, I don't know how it was sent, I just know the owner had tracking information at her fingertips. My guess is it was not postal mail. My guess is that they had more than a few items, although I would have thought the girl would drive away never to be seen again. Apparently she hung around? I'm curious to know her level of stupidity. I know the dude was too stupid to remove his telltale hat....DOH!

Anything sent through USPS is considered U.S. mail and falls under a federal offense if stolen. Other 'couriers' are considered private/commercial and thus fall under the same laws for such things as 'theft', 'larceny', 'grand larceny', etc, and the crime becomes more serious the larger the value of the stolen goods.

They can't be too smart if they were stealing from the front porch in broad daylight. :screwy:

I hope they get a good punishment and not a slap on the hand. Have them spend a day in jail and they will learn a lesson for life.

I have to add my kudos to TeamDonzi too - great job! Way to go!

I'll have to rethink my purchasing process because I love Amazon and especially this time of year. In the past, I've had some large packages left at the far side of my garage near the street - in other words, no where near my front porch and much easier to steal!

I bought my item from Amazon, and the carrier was Lasership .. never heard of that before. They did not even put at my front door, they put in the driveway by the closed garrage .. which I plan to tell Amazon not to do that in the future.
Something good about Amazon is the shipping information is really up to date, I can look up information quickly using that.

As for these kids, by the way, the thief is 18 years old already. He is old enough to know better but decide to do this as his daily job together with his brother.
Of course they threw away the Amazon box, kept the wireless router in their car when the police searched for it.
As you said, they were either stupid or thought that they would be able to steal again from someone else's house, they hung around. Someone recognized the description when the police dispatched the news, called the officer, and you know about the rest of the story.

Yikes, does he live around here? I'll bet we could find the box if you look along Truro Parish. That's where she was headed. She also could have turned on Waxpool to cut back through the schools, where later that day someone saw a car peel out from Ridgeway. Even though her address is in Vienna, she seemed to know the roads around here very well, better than I in fact. That makes me think the boys live here somewhere. Oh by the way, if he's 18, don't they have to publish his name?

Okay, one last thing. Looking at the daily crime reports from LCSD, there seem to be several incidents of packages being removed from porches. If somebody buys something and they never receive, they don't necessarily know it's been stolen, it just is a loss to the shipping company, which of course increases shipping rates. Geez, it's a pretty easy crime to get away with. It's amazing we get the majority of our packages at all!

oh man, I have 4 more packages coming shortly, one is for today. I am staying home until it is delivered to be safe. With Black Friday shopping near by, it is so difficult not to do online shopping.
well, I lost a a brand new samsung cellular phone last year, and did not know why and now I know.

I did not ask for his name, but hopefully they will pubish his name on the report.
He was supposed to show up at the court the day before yesterday because one of his charge or something, but he failed to do so. The police was also looking for him on other charge. So he will be staying in jail for a while.

a day is not nearly enough time. this is a brazen crime, total lack of regard for rules, and just the start for punks like this. jail, community service, mandatory counseling to find out why they are lawless thieves.
then ship them off to an island. BRING BACK ALCATRAZ! lol

I just called the police nonemergency to ask if these punks have a shipment I have been anxiously awaiting since 10/30. I know it's a long shot, but just in case my stuff turns up I want the police to know who it belongs to. We had just initiated a paypal dispute because the shipment was taking so long.

I think your experience would make a great Onstar commercial.
