Are they going to come around tomorrow? I can take the bins to Arcola, but not the full trash can. I saw no notice on the forum about this toda.

Hmm, they came up to my area at the intersection of Waxpool and Demott.
Maybe they got stuck in the snowstorm?

No trash pick up or recycling on our street, maybe they will show up after 8PM (like they did last week).

Never mind the Patriot truck literally just pulled up to our street, but they only took the trash.

They just came by at about 8:20 p.m. and put our recycling and trash into the same truck. So essentially, just threw out all of our recyclables! :angryfire:

I feel bad for these guys working so late into the night and it's so cold but I'd rather they just take my garbage and I'll hold onto my recycling until next week.

sometimes compromise is necessary. while you may have the capacity to hold onto the stuff - others may not.. and as you can see from other posts people get peeved when trash isn't picked up at all. So compromise.. the world isn't going to end if one week's recycling is mixed in with the trash.

While some may find that upsetting, others would find not taking the recycling at all would be just as upsetting or more.

Our trash was picked up but our recycling wasn't. We called Patriot about 4 and they said the recycling truck hadn't gotten to us. Well, they still haven't... I will leave it out overnight but I'll be really surprised if they pick it up. (We're in the townhouses off of Village.)

Actually, that is not acceptable and I am not even sure it is allowed by county law. If we go to the trouble to separate recyclables from garbage, I don't want it to end up in a landfill. While many around here do not recycle, I do believe that it is technically required? I would rather have them come the next day, which is a more acceptable "compromise."
That said, it might have been a split truck that has two areas? But it does not sound like it. To the other poster, I would call and report what you saw. A few inches of snow does not mean we throw everything away.

Our recyclables were picked up at about 7:00 AM today... earlier than usual. Trash was picked up midday just when the snow was starting to fall.

No split truck on our street. They dumped contents of all 3 of our recycling bins into our trash can and then into the back of the truck. They came about 7:45 pm.

If you are certain about what you saw then please call Pariot and report it. It is likely a few workers were making this independent decision to get it done and it was not condoned by the main office (I hope.)

We still have our recycling out front. I hope they come today.

The landfill closed early yesterday as did the recycling facility that Patriot uses. Additionally, they had a truck breakdown. Several small sections of Broadlands did have recycles and trash picked up together. The owner of Patriot called me late yesterday to notify me that they had to do that in order to get all the trash and recyclables off the street. This is not a regular occurence. Haulers are fined by the county or their load can be rejected if recycles are mixed with trash. They hoped to get everything picked up yesterday as long as the roads were safe.

Thanks for the update. I knew there had to be a reason they were combining both. We have never experienced a problem with Patriot.

Even with the notification, is that allowed to combine trash and recycling?

Like others, I'm annoyed that we take the time to wash out recyclables and FILL our big recycling toter every week to only have it all thrown away. I'd rather have the can out that night to be picked up the next day.

Our whole neighborhood did not get our recyclables picked up yesterday either. We had the bin out all day, some people still have the recyclables on the sidewalk.

I left a message yesterday morning with Patriot around 9 a.m. No one called me back.

I watched them dump our recyclables into our regular trash bin, then dump the entire thing into the back of the truck. They definitely weren't separating it.

It's Sunday morning - the recyclables are still out in our whole street. Should I take mine back in and wait for next Thursday?

I probably would. Unless you care for it to be combined tomorrow. Or they may just ignore it and then it'd be out until Thursday.

Personally I'd rather deal with taking the stuff out and having to bring it back in rather than combining with trash. I understand the circumstances with the snow and am willing to be flexible with no pick-up.

This morning, I noticed that the recycling truck picked up the recyclables that were in the recycling bins, but left behind most of the cardboard that was not in a bin. Later that day, the trash truck picked up the cardboard when they picked up the regular trash (combining both in the back of the truck).

I know today was probably a larger than normal cardboard pick-up because of Christmas gifts and maybe all recyclables couldn't be picked up in a normal run. However, if that is the reason for the recycling truck not picking up all of the cardboard, shouldn't Patriot plan for extra recyclables after Christmas?

It gets frustrating when you take the time to separate recyclables and then the items are picked up with the regular trash.
