I just found out we got the gas leak in all 4 of my gas cooking range.
It has caused everyone in the house so sick for months.
I am thinking about switching to Induction cooking range.
Does anyone know where I can find a local technician who can help me out with this kind of work ? I checked with Lowes, Home Depot and Sears. All they can do is install the induction cooking range but will not re-wire or clean up my current gas cooking range.
I am afraid it will blow up something if the eletrical currents cannot support the induction cooking range when we try to put in.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

We did something like what you describe when we had our townhome built. Miller & Smith townhomes came with a gas range, but I didn't want a gas range for a variety of reasons. Since the builder builds the homes in the same manner, a gas line was still installed to the location where the range would be. The builder had the line properly capped and an electrician installed a circuit specifically for the range.

I would suggest you contact a specialized heating and cooling specialist, plumber or Qualified HVAC Contractor in order to have your line capped at the location of the range. You can get a list of qualified HVAC contractors from the Washington Gas website (http://www.washingtongasliving.com/For_Your_Home/ConvertToNaturalGas/ProductInstallation.xml)

Then, you'll need an electrician to install the circuit for the new range. Once all these preparations are completed, you can then ask Home Depot, Lowes, etc, to deliver and install your new range, or even ask the electrician to do it if it's cheaper.

    Good luck!

bluepansee, please report back who you hire. Have you decided on the brand for the induction cooktop? We're finally getting rid of the gas range as well but haven't shopped around yet.

Thanks everyone for suggestion. We have contacted one contractor we found on the internet, they gave us the estimation, and the estimated cost is around $2800, to fix the gas, change to electric, and install the cooktop. I am not sure if this is the good price, but it seems too high for us. This cost is not included the cost of induction cooking top, which is about $1600.

We wanted to get the Kenmore elite 42800 induction cooktop, but it is 1/2 inch longer than my current cut on our granite, it will cost much more just to do the new cut, so I will shop for something else.

Thanks again for the suggestion, We will contact these contractors here for better price. I will keep everyone posted once we make the decision.

Definitely shop around, ask for references, and if possible, ask for permission to contact some previous customers in the area. Check for licenses, insurance, etc. Also verify how long they have been in business.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

As promised, here is the update.
I finally have the induction cooktop installed. I chose the Bosch 8000 series because it is the only one that fit my granite cut. I ordered mine online, it took 4 weeks for the item to arrive but I have to say, it is much cheaper with no tax and free delivery.

About the Gas fitter, I tried all POCs that has been suggested here and from my friends, but either it is not their areas or it is too expensive. Finally, I found the guy who has done the job for $850, which is much better than over $2000. Send me email if anyone is interested getting him. I found him on one of the newspaper's ad, he did a great job, and now everything is done, and it is so beautiful :)

I used Tankless Concepts for my tankless water heater install. They did a great job on the plumbing and the gas line runs. Ed is an old school plumber and is very good.
