We are not in love with our current peds practice and considering changing to Ashburn Peds prior to our third arrival. Can you tell me the goods and bads about it? Thanks!

We have been seeing the doctors and nurse practitioners there for over a year. They are the only peds we have used in the area since we moved here from Chicago last year. We've had 2 sick child visits, 1 well child visit and 3 school / camp forms visits.

The goods: sick child hours every day (Monday - Saturday), sick child waiting room separate from well child waiting room, caring and responsive nurse practitioners, helpful nurses. We saw Dr. Gold for the well child visit. He was very nice and had a good rapport with my son. Felt that he talked down to me, but when you deal with kids all day, you could adopt a fatherly tone to everyone. So, I didn't get too bothered by it.

The bads: waited 45 minutes for well child visit in an annex waiting room with no toys or books for the kids to play with, front desk staff has an attitude, for all the doctors in the practice it was not easy to get the well child visit scheduled, we have no connection to any doctor in particular.

All in all, I don't dislike them enough to find another practice, but I don't love them as much as the practice we left in Chicago. My child has received good care from them and they have just added another doctor, so getting seen should really not be an issue.

Love Ash Peds. We have not had any waits longer than 10-15 minutes and most usually withing 5. The staff has always been excellent with our child and honest with us.

We've been there a little over 7 years and have 2 children, 1 with special needs.

Pros are - separate well and sick waiting rooms, walk in sick hours in the mornings, and Saturday morning appts. Also, I have always been able to call and get a sick appt on the same day. We have developed great relationships with several of the doctors there and they are amazing at working with our son's other specialists. Nurses are top notch and friendly too. Front desk staff also attentive and friendly.

Cons - sometimes I seem to be on hold "forever" when calling for an appt but like I said earlier, I always have been seen the same day. One Saturday we were in and waiting in the exam room for about 30 min - only 2 docs on staff that day and they were slammed.

Overall, we are very happy there and glad we chose this practice.

My son has been going to Ashburn Pediatrics since he was born 6 years ago. We have been very happy with them and have never had a problem getting an appointment the same day. All of the Drs. that we have seen have been nice but Dr. Beloy is our favorite. The office also have walk-in sick appointments from 7:30-8:30 am M-F. The longest we have waited in the waiting room is about 25 minutes but usually it is around 10 minutes or less. You can also call their office after hours to speak to the doctor on call if needed.

We recently started going to ASh Pds after our first baby.(3+ months).
I agree to what everyone has mentioned as I feel the same.
The wait time for me has usually been 25 minutes or more which is what I dislike.
Also, since there are many doctors, I am not sure if we can develop a close connection with one in particular.

Who are your current pediatricians? We currently go to Ashburn Pediatrics, but are thinking about switching. Had a bad experience with three of their doctors, one of which was way too test (blood drawing) happy...the other was NASTY on an after hours emergency call.

That being said, Dr. Pierce and Kelly at Ashburn Peds are fantastic, the rest of that crew needs some work.

--EDIT-- nevermind, just realized this thread is from 2009 :)

Is anyone else about to lose their minds with Ashburn Pediatrics phone system????
Arghh. I really love the care we get there and we've never had a wait. This is the only issue I have with them but its getting worse and worse. I call. I wait. I cuts me off.
I call back. I wait. It cuts me off. Last week I told the person who finally got on the phone with me and all she could say was "Yeah. Its been like that for awhile. Something's wrong with it but we don't know what."

Are you confident in the docs abilities there? The reason I ask is that I've heard nothing about Loudoun peds and am interested.

We use capital area peds now and the docs always seem to rush us out. In my opinion, they made a bad call when one of our kids had H1N1 last year. They're OK, but I'm afraid they may miss something (or even over-diagnose) with the speed at which they see patients.

has anyone used Women Physicians of Northern Virginia?

    http://www.womenphysicians.org/about.html

I recently met one of the doctors there (Dr. Ivey-Crowe) and she seemed very nice and professional. i don't need s pediatrician, the boy is 12 and always sees Dr. Rodriguez, BUT if this is a good place... maybe it's another nice option to consider for those of you who are looking.

Had an absolutely horrible experience with them during the birth of my son. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Dr. Ivey-Crowe delivered both of my kids. I love her. Sometimes the staff and billing are a pain, but I don't deal with them enough to leave the practice. I've been going to her for almost 10 years.

I hate them. They never knew my name, ridiculed me about my weight with my first born (and those that have seen me pregnant and non-pregnant KNOW this is totally uncalled for), treated me like an idiot when I asked random questions (I was pregnant with my first when I was seeing them, but I was also a well woman patient). I hated Rattner the most, but of all of them, Ivey-Crowe was the only tolerable one. I ended up switching physicians to Loudoun OB/GYN when I was 7 months pregnant. I've been with them since and love the attention I receive. They know my name, took terrific care of me with all 4 of my pregnancies and they don't feel as if I have to go get a check up every year if I am consistently having normal well check ups. I love that.

Yep, I went there when I was pregnant with my son and they were awful! They only seemed interested in making a LOT of appointments, each requiring a co-pay and they were just plain rude (more the staff than the doctors, since my visits apparently didn't rate seeing a doctor, just paying for it!) I switched to Loudoun Women's Health and love it there!

Dr. Rattner has been terrible for 20 years, then. Never ANY bedside manner. You would have thought she would have improved with age or experience. My roomates from college and I still laugh about the way she treated us. Uggh!

I guess I'm the Ashburn Peds veteran here. We've been patience of theirs for over 15 years. My kids are well into their teens and grimace everytime I tell them it's time to leave Ashburn Peds--and more specifically Dr. Reilly. My kids even drive themselves to their own appointments--weird I know.

Yes, we've had some long wait-times when we were sick but never more than 10 mins. Yes, they had phone issues but have straightened them around. All of those "negatives" are so small and insignificant compared to the care we have gotten there. We've never had a wrong diagnosis, we've never had any issues with prescriptions. Dr Reilly has always treated my kids like they were adults and what they said really mattered. And just as important, Dr. Reilly has always treated our family with wonderful compassion and respect. In 15 years, we've seen all the doctors, nurses and nurse practioners and not once can I think of a time when we've been hurried, mistreated or disrespected.

If my daughter could take Dr. Reilly to college with her I know she would. This is a wonderful practice full of kind, compassionate care-givers. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Northern Virginia. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. But the phone issues have most certainly NOT been dealt with--unless they fixed them over the weekend.

Does anyone go to Broadlands Family Practice? I'm expecting and am checking out pediatricians. I'd like to find a group that has privileges at the Loudoun Hospital.
