Chez Francois is fantastic and is always at the top of my list.

But the ultimate is Inn at Little Washington. Very expensive, but very memorable. Worth it but the cost makes it a once every couple of years type of place. Dinner is $148 per person Sunday through Thursday. The Friday dinner price is $158 per person and on Saturday dinner is $178 per person. Excludes tax, drinks and gratuity. It's worth skipping a few nightouts on the town to save up for. They also have a bed and breakfast but we've never stayed there. It's one of the best restaurants in the country.

if you are ready to pay 8x what a regular meal would cost- this can't be beaten for romance and atmosphere!

hubby took me there for my 40th bday and it was spectacular, unforgettable and one of my top meal experiences ever.

that said- we will NEVER go back unless we double our annual earnings... :)

The Inn at Little Washington? I'm afraid I'm in the minority here. I find their ilk (used disparagingly), patronizing, pretentious, and arrogant. It's fine to earn your 5 stars but never forget your humble beginnings.

That is because most (I did not say all) of the patrons are "patronizing, pretentious, and arrogant." :D

really??? i felt pampered, kowtowed to and downright royal with the battalion of waiters, the sommelier who opened bottle after bottle until we found one we all liked, the chef coming to wish me a happy birthday and giving our group a kitchen tour, the hostess who also checked on our party--- it was nothing short of spectacular service and true pride in a well run business with charming history.

if that's how celebrities are treated every where they go, no WONDER they are messed up egomaniacs who assume people are there to do their bidding and kiss their butts! it was overwhelmingly awesome.

I agree and would vote for Tuskies, Parallel Wine Bistro, Travinia (in that order) :)

    total sheer unadulterated C R A P.

We went a few weeks ago for an overdue date night.

Very poor/slow service, it took 35 minutes just to get our drink order. Cold/bland tasting food, I found a cigarette butt in my salad and yes they had the temerity to charged me for the salad.

At the end of the evening, they gave us someone else's $725 check and the server decided to bicker with me about the snafu, but he was very loud and it was quite embarrassing.

The valet took 45 minutes for them to bring us our car. When our car arrived I indicated to the valet "someone had put 28 miles on our car" and no one could/would explain this to our satisfaction.

I jokingly told my hubby, "ya know we should have gone to McDonalds and grabbed a movie, it would have been cheaper and a lot more enjoyable".

Suffice to say we will never return to "the Potomac Club"

Oh, I don't doubt their service was exceptional - it ought to be downright ingratiating for the $$$! I had the pleasure of coordinating a small event there last summer so part of my opinion was formed by entering through the "back door".

BTW, what's with the monkey wall paper?

We've always liked L'Auberge Provencale in White Post. It's about an hour away from Ashburn, (but it's a B&B if you want to spend the night).

Agree, Inn at Little Washington is a treat! Not a regular thing, but for very special occasions. Loved it when we went the one time. Will be back next year.

Thanks for this info! I had never even considered or thought about lunch there. After I saw this post, my husband and I were able to go on Friday and it was as wonderful as any evening, in fact, I liked it more because it was less crowded. It was fabulous! Plenty of food and half the price of dinner. I love the ambience there and the food - it's just fantastic. Great place for a date!

Lansdowne Resort. We had dinner there last night with friends. The staff was wonderful: the chef sent out many items for us to try (rabbit ravioli, homemade ice cream, chestnut mousse) and came out when we asked to see him so we could thank him for the nice meal.

The main dish itself was ok - nothing too special. I had the strip loin and probably should have tried something more exotic.

We go to On the Potomac at Lansdowne Resort about once a month and it is always great. Love how they are now using local ingredients and wines too.
