I know it must be difficult to find places to walk your dog with all the snow, but please refain from allowing your dog to do its business on my sidewalk. Also, if this does happen please use the baggie in your hand to clean up the mess (instead of looking at it).

I think whomever this is owes the Briar Woods student a shoe shine.

    Thank you.

So did you just take a picture and not ask him to clean up after his dog?

I happen to witness the student step in it. I went back and reviewed the "tape" to figure out who did it and when.

I wish I could catch someone in the act. I'd rub there nose in it. Just kiddin.;)

I am lucky enough to live with two dogs. However, the melting of the snow is a time to see weeks of dog waste. I offer no support to those who are not responsible citizens.

The funny and sad thing about it to me is that this guy actually has a surveillance camera set up to catch poopetrators.

I'd like to second these sentiments. I live on a court very close to Mill Run Elementary, and some "poopy bandit" has been allowing their dog to leave their "business" all over our sidewalk recently. Our neighbors work hard to keep the sidewalk shoveled after snow storms so that our children have a clear path to walk to school; it is disgusting that it is soiled in this way. I (along with many of my neighbors) have at least one dog; I know that my family always cleans up after our two dogs, even when they go in another "doggy yard" and the home owners say we don't have to. Most of my dog-owning neighbors have the same policy. I hate the thought that this one bad apple may spoil the whole bunch for the rest of us. IMHO, if you can't take responsibility for your dog and clean up after it, you shouldn't have a dog. What I really don't get is that whoever it is that isn't cleaning up after their dog also most likely has children that walk to school on the same sidewalk!

It is also against county code 612.19(9). It is also disgusting and unhealthy.

All right...got to clarify something here. This is our dog. Our dog never pooped on the sidewalk to our knowledge. My husband said he was watching him pee, and to his knowledge, he never even pooped on that specific walk. He had a poop bag with him on the walk. If he saw him go, he would have picked it up! The 'so-called' poop in the second photo is huge and you can't even tell if it's poop (and it was taken the day after my husband walked by). My dog weighs 7 lbs and has never pooped as large as the item in the second photo. I can't believe I'm even having this conversation.

If you look closely at the photo of our dog (blow it up to full screen size), he is PEEING with his leg UP! I don't know what's on the sidewalk, but there is poop ALL OVER the sidewalks up here near where we live and it's not from our dog!

We don't ever let our dog poop in anyone's yard. He has pooped on the sidewalk in the snowstorm one time, but we picked it up! We don't even let him pee in other people's yards!

So, please, before you post pictures on here, please get your story straight or come talk to the person you think did it! If it happened at all (which we don't think it did), it was not done purposely!:(

soccerdudes - I admire you for putting your hand up and correcting the perceived case against your little dog. Finger pointing like this using photographs that are nearly 24 hours apart seems a little unfair not to mention big brother'ish.

Agree with the point being made, but lets get the facts straight first. For many dog owners, me included, I think the issue has been that because of the volume of snow, there was literally nowhere for dogs to "go" aside from the relatively low-lying compressed snow on the sidewalks. Which doesn't excuse anyone from not picking it up, but might account for the increased number of incidents. So I guess we are seeing those who usually let it lie on the grassy verges now just let it lie on the sidewalk. And that's just downright lazy and dirty.

I appreciate you honesty in that it was your dog in the picture. I actually have video of it happening. Nothing on sidewalk, then dog walks over a certain spot (hunched over) and leaves a few small deposits.

In reference to the second photo, there are also several twigs or mulch that made its way on to the sidewalk and makes it look large. This is probably why it was not noticed as it was small compared to several pieces of wood next to it. The only way I knew it was poop to begin with is I actually saw the student look at his shoe after it happened and cleaned it off.

If I had actualy seen it happen, or known who the owner was, I would have approached them first, but I did not have that information. I, as with many others, are tired of this practice which results in people stepping in things they should not be.

From your post, it appears this was accidental and an isolated incident and that you are a responsible pet owner and clean up after your pet and I thank you for that.

Our apologies if that did happen. It is most certainly an isolated incident and was definitely not noticed by my husband. Our dog has never 'done his business' on the sidewalk before this last snow...it is his first real snow he's ever experienced (he is a puppy) and he was definitely out of sorts.

All dog owners are not inconsiderate. We love our beautiful community and would never jeopardize the health of our fellow inhabitants. Not to mention we are sick of stepping in it on almost every walk we go on due to the pet owners who leave it lying around all over the place.

    Again, our apologies.

I do want to ask if I get a reward for figuring out it was my husband's fault...;)

Not a problem. I know not all dog owners are inconsiderate as I see many doing the right thing, unfortunately (based on the land mines on my lawn in the summer) many do not.

As far as a reward, all I can offer is to stop by for a beer (on tap) or other drink of choice. Maybe we can develop a plan to catch the inconsiderate owners.

Sunny, you made me laugh with that one.

Well, maybe the above two can offer that "poor" student a root beer to make up for the embarrassment? I say Root Beer since he ain't old enough to drink a beer yet!

I also live near by the Mill Run School, and we got dog poop all the time on the sidewalk, on our yard even though we have signs everywhere asking people to pick up after their dog. This makes me so mad.

Anyway, one early morning, while we were driving out, we saw this woman (around 55-60 yrs old), walking the small dog, she was smoking and walking the dog. However, just past my house, the dog decided to do his business. Of course she did not have anything with her except the cigarette, and because we were looking at her, she took the plastic bag from the newspaper's wrap, use it to clean after her dog and throw the newspapers under my neighbor's car. I am sure my neighbor was not that happy with the dirty newspapers.

I guess in the way, she picked up after her dog, but then what happened if no one was there ?
When someone walks a dog, should they have some kind of bags to clean after their dog ?

After 5 years of our neighbor's dog regularly pooping in our yard, we contacted Loudoun Animal Control. Their process consists of sending a letter to the offending (or offensive) household. If the intrusion continues, they will then send an officer to the residence to assess the offenders ability to respond appropriately.

After years of saying stop! Pick up your dog's poop! And them playing dumb! It's nice to know that there is a follow-up process to stop this "crap"!
