Don't go with American Movers Group. We used them to move my Mom down here last fall and had a lot of issues with the way the bill. On one hand they want to use volume and then they try to use weight (they use a multiplier to "equate" the two). We think she was severely overcharged, but they have yet to respond to her claim. Also, there was some signficant damage done to furniture pieces and a number of boxes were lost completely.

Any way of taking them to small claims court if its within the court's guidelines on the dollar amount maximum? Build up your evidence with a notebook and take lots of notes and get appraisals of repair estimates, etc. to show the Judge. The judge will side with you if you build up a good case.

My own dad did that with his own property when he was a landlord. He was able to show that the property manager did a bad job and that the renter was negligent in several things. Judge ruled in his favor and threw the book at the property manager. Property manager thus saw his business decline severely after word got out that he was a bad manager.

I have had personal experience with:
-Mayflower moving me from VA to Northern New Jersey
-Atlas from Northern New Jersey to Philadelphia,
-United moving me from Philadelphia to Oakton VA
-Interstate me from Oakton to Ashburn.

Based on my experience, if I move again, my first call will go to Interstate. If for some reason they weren’t available, I would call Mayflower. Interstate is family owned and located in Springfield VA.

Definitely JK movers. We used them to move from Ashburn Farm to the Brambleton area 7 years ago. They were wonderful to work with and have a great reputation. They are the official movers for the Redskins, Capitals and Wizards. I have never heard anything but good things about the company.

JK Movers $$$$$! But you get what you pay for - a quality, seamless move.

We used JK twice many years ago (10?). The first time we were satisfied but the second time we were not happy with them. They put a long gouge in a brand new dining room table that we had just bought from Ethan Allen. We noticed when the group of movers were standing and staring at the table that something was up and when we walked into the room, they quickly dispersed. We took a look and saw what they had been staring at! Had someone come out to look at the table and they determined that it was not fixable as the gouge was too deep and long. While JK took responsibility for the damage, they would only pay a small fraction of what it was worth. I had the bill showing it was bought only weeks prior. Totally understand that accidents will happen with a move. But they wouldn't reimburse us even half of its value. The woman that I dealt with in the business office was extremely unprofessional and rude. In addition, they took a two hour lunch break without letting us know. We also had a few things missing after the move.

We have also used Regency Moving & Storage and were extremely pleased. Not only were they much less expensive than JK, they were very professional and friendly. Did a great job and it was an all day move which went quite late. They never complained or changed their pace. We were very impressed. Not sure if the info. is the same but our contact was Sean Quill and his number was 703.497.1515. Best of luck with the move!

No, we didn't. After going through a bunch of hoops of getting the furniture guy to give written opinion that the table was not fixable and faxing it to JK they then told us what their policy was for reimbursement of a used table. I even faxed them the recent invoice for the nearly brand new dining table, but she said it didn't matter--it was their policy that it was used. We were busy with the move and all and after getting so agitated about it after a while we decided to close the issue and move on. Sometimes the negative associated with pursuing such issues isn't worth it.
