I moved to Ashburn Village in 1997. Then into the Broadlands in 2003. In both cases I was required to sign a form at closing that said I understood that I was on the flight path to the airport. This should be no surprise to anyone in this area.

On the other hand, my previous residence was 2 miles off the end of Andrews AFB in maryland. NONE of these planes compare to getting woken up at 9 on a weekend when the Air National guard was taking off in fighters on full afterburners.

I signed no such disclusure at my closing in October 2010. Hence the surprise.

I enjoy the sound, but maybe that's just because I grew up on Air Force bases till I was 15. When I'm inside I honestly rarely even notice it except maybe once every other month. Never been woken up, or lost any sleep over it.

Longer you live here, the less you'll tend to hear it I bet...

There's nothing louder than trying to teach a class near the flight line at Ramstein Air Base and being interrupted every 20 mins while an F16 flys by.

Ahh, that was a fun trip. :)

Yep, they take off right over Stone Hill. It's always fun to watch. Some of the Boeings (SA, British, Luft) are super loud, and they're low enough that you could kick a soccer ball and hit it.

I don't remember how it was with our current house but I know with our first one in Ashburn Village there was a line of text in the contract stating that the home was within 10 miles of Dulles airport. I suppose that was my "agreement."
