I am in desperate need of some maintenance and don't know where to start. I do color, highlights and trim. Who do you go to and are the prices reasonable? Thanks!

there's a fantastic deal on www.specialicious.com for $30 for $60 in services at Serenity & Style Hair Studio. I have not had my hair done there yet but the place, stylists and owner are all quite impressive. Professional welcoming atmosphere, and they have specialists for everything from Brazilian Blowouts, a colorist, ethnic hair, weaves, extensions... on and on.

Do I even want to know what a "Brazilian blowout" is? Sounds painful.

Temporary hair straightening...the most painful part is not being able to wash your hair for 4 days!

That's a relief. I was thinking about Brazilian hair wax and then started to trying to add explosions.

Erin at Radiance is wonderful, and she does a great job with color and highlights. But she is very popular, and it can take a while to get an appointment with her. It's worth the wait though.

Is Erin the tall gal with the short strawberry blond cut who used to work at Eclipes a few years ago?

No, black hair, blue eyes. She's been at Radiance for at least 5 years.

Angela @ Modern Concepts Salon on Ashburn Road. She is an excellent stylist. I've been going there for around a year, and each time I go she asks how I liked my color and cut, if I've had any issues, do I want to change it up. Very nice and friendly facility. They use Schwarzkopf color products, and sell Davine's products which are so very nice! (703) 726-1630

Agreed. Kim is really a stellar stylist, the surroundings might not be the most salubrious, but really she listens, takes care, and always gets you what you want - cut or color. She's also the hair salon manager. And her senior stylist rates are more friendly on the wallet than many others.

Erin at Bristles and Shears by Belfort. I love the salon. They had a huge food spread for Christmas. Also snack and coffee area. Excellent shampoo and short head massage from Nikki. Check out Their Wall, near the Shampoo bowls. Always something new to see. 703-421-9460 or 9461.

Bubbles at Dulles Town Center. I think the stylist's name is Mashay or something like that. I don't do color but have very thick, wavy hair and she does a great job.

I wanted to provide very recent feedback on Eclips (Brambleton & Jennifer Bowles):

About a month ago, my long time stylist at Red Door's Reston location was unavailable (I've been Fatima's client for 9 years), so I decided to try someone new. WHOA big mistake and my hair has been in a pony tail for 3 weeks. The Red Door stylist didn't listen to my request and ended up giving me a modified mullet.

Based on this thread & recommendations, I had my first consultation/cut with Eclips stylist Jennifer Bowles this afternoon. Not only was she able fix another stylist's haircut, Jennifer took the time to discuss my expectations, before she picked up her shears. I would not hesitate going back to Jennifer or Eclips (Brambleton). Jennifer Bowles is a ROCK star and I highly recommend her.

disclaimer- i DO have a professional connection with this (and plenty of others!) salon, however I also decide to try them as a consumer since they have a hair stylist who specializes in ethnic hair. this review is as a very satisfied CONSUMER!

I went to Serenity & Style for the first time on Friday and LOVE what Christina Bester did to my hair: beautiful highlights and a flattering simple cut that I have actually been able to style myself at home. Christina Bester is a true genius when it comes to style- she looked at my face for a few seconds and told me she had an idea for me and i let her run with it- SO glad I did because it's far more glam and fun than anything I thought of.

This Hair Studio is so hospitable, clean, comfortable and professional- the entire experience was beyond pleasant. My fave part is the hair washing station- the chairs are recliners and your head sits on a soft tray, not dangling back into the sink giving you an aching neck- SO COMFY. and I don't know her name but she massaged my scalp so deeply, it felt more like a spa treatment than a simple wash and condition! REALLY glad I found this place- it's my new hair home!
