Had lunch there today. Great service, good sized (and yummy) servings at a fair price.

I so agree with this. Without experience it can be hard to tell if the problem is on the floor, in the kitchen, at the bar, or management.

And if you got back to the complaint - she didn't name any individual to blame. She put the responsibility on the establishment - which is where it should be.

I'm sure many restaurant patrons have experience working in food establishments, but it shouldn't be a prerequisite to eat out. Nor should they accept inferior service as the status quo because they used to wait tables and have first hand experience with how "difficult" the job may be - au contraire.

People have different standards for what qualifies as so-so and exceptional food and service when it comes to spending their hard earned cash.

I always love your posts, KTdid.
I worked in a restaurant when I was younger for several years. I don't accept inferior service based on my familiarity with how "difficult" the job was. I loved working in a restaurant. Most of the time I hold a restaurant to a higher standard b/c I know what I would have done if the roles were reversed. I am able to quickly know when I step into a restaurant if I am staying with my family or not. I know if I am going to complain to the server, the manager, or the owner at a later time. I know how a steak should look when ordered a certain temp, I can't stand when a server only asks my table what we want to drink upon initial contact, I look at how clean their hands are, and it makes me leary when they suggest the most expensive thing on the menu as their favorite. But I also don't tip based on anything but service, I complain with a complement sandwich, and I don't ever go to Ledo's in Belmont or Broadlands Pub.
BTW, I was definitely not scrutinizing the way Dawne handled her dissatisfaction. I know Dawne and she is an incredibly bright, tolerant and delightful person. I was commenting in general.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Ours was great. It sounds like it was the exception and not the rule. Next time try the Mole Ranchero. It was sooo good! We'll be back for sure.

Went yesterday for dinner, everything tasted pretty good. Nothing really stood out, but nothing was bad either. We got chips and salsa fairly quickly. Chips were ok, salsa was mild. It was very stuffy in there tho, they need to turn the ac or air on. My only food suggestion to them would be that for crispy tacos, stick a couple chips under them on the plate. No idea why Mexican places out here never do this.

I've never had "chips" placed under any tacos I 've ever eaten, and I have eaten a whole lot. What does this do? For the record, I've grown up with Tex-Mex, Cali-Mex and True Mexican-Mex food most of 30 of my 40 years on this rock.

Really? They do it all the time out west. It keeps the bottom of your taco from getting soggy so quickly. The grease goes into the chips or off them instead of pooling on the plate and taco. Both tacos I had were pretty wet on the bottom by the time I picked them up, which was right after they brought them. One almost fell apart. Still good tho.

Some places do it, some don't. It's really not important to us. We'll be going back tomorrow for dinner.

Had lunch there yesterday. Good prices...simple meal but seemed really fresh.
    I thought it was great.

Had dinner there again tonight. Service and food were good. Not only did our waitress check on us, so did at least one other individual.

I'm not sure why someone would choose Anita's southwest fare over more authentic Mexican food but to each his own. DH loves Anita's but prefers Los Toltecos. As for me, I used to like Anita's but after getting food poisoning last summer from there (sick for a week), I have no interest in ever going back, besides the fact their food tastes like it's microwaved right out of the fridge.

Went there the other night. Would say it was good, service was good, food was good. Not memorable or some place that I'd really want to go to, but good.

I got sick there last year too, nice people but the food just doesn't agree with me...
I don't think los toltecos will win awards, it's good and will likely get better.

Try the cheese dip at Los Toltecos, that's main reason I go there. Very bad for me that they are so close now :) The rest of there food is good and satisfies my craving for Mexican food.

Speaking of Guac, I was just out west (Las Vegas) and I went to a Subways for lunch, OMG, they have fresh avacado for your sandwich as part of the choices of veggies. I had two sandwiches, while there over a 4 day period. OMG, it was great.

I went there and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Their guac was very good.

But I found the food to be meh-xican. Maybe I don't like authentic Mexican food.

Does anyone have a "must have" dish?
