I understand that there are a few times a year when fireworks are socially acceptable: fourth of july, new years eve, maybe on the odd weekend in the summer here and there.
During these times society can adequately prepare for the unfortunate soles who who may suffer from PTSD, medicate the pets who suffer from loud noise anxiety and move the babies that are just falling asleep to another room where the noise is muffled.

But to the schmucks who are popping off dynamite rounds for giggles on random Sunday night or weekday when the sun has set IS THIS FREAKING NECESSARY???

I heard some last week on Monday. I assumed it was related to Osama finally being caught.

What I find interesting is that you can't buy fireworks here except at the 4th of July so these people are storing them all this time??? That just doesn't seem safe to me. Let me toss some sticks of "dynamite" in the corner of my garage for 6 or 8 months and hope for the best!

Totally agree! I support a complete ban for their use outside of organized events.

There are also festivals and cultural gatherings for various different religions that dont fall on the allotted July 4th and New Years day.

We were visiting in the area when these were going off. Saw them bounce off the roofs of a few houses...these were not small bottle rockets. Only luck that they did not catch a house on fire or injure someone outside.

Someone burns a house down or injures a kid playing outside in the back yard and at a minimum there will be a civil lawsuit. Just sayin'

I agree with you! My uncle was injured in 1975 by a few kids shooting off some bottle rockets. He was hit in the shoulder if I remember correctly and after collecting himself, he went to find out who did it...the kids were on another street shooting bottle rockets...Yep, you guessed it, he sued and the kids' parents got the brunt of it and settled out of court for a good sum of $$$.

These guys are just askin' for trouble.

Depending on the firework, may be illegal.

    3. I want to display fireworks in my back yard. Are certain fireworks illegal to possess?

Yes. Any firework that explodes, rises into the air, moves across the ground or shoots projectiles into the air, is illegal to possess in Virginia. These devices include firecrackers, roman candles, pop bottle rockets as well as shell devices used at public displays. Although it is fairly easy to obtain these items by going across state lines, possession and use of these devices is a Class 1 Misdemeanor in Virginia. Depending on the classification of the device, federal explosives charges could also be imposed for interstate transport. The Fire Marshal's Office recommends that only fireworks sold at retail stands in Loudoun County be used. They may not be used on public property, including streets and roads. These fireworks have been tested to ensure they are suitable for consumers and are on an approved list maintained by the Fire Marshal's Office.
