Just curious what homeowners in Southern Walk do for phone service. Do most use their cell phones for long distance? We were told by Openband that we can't even have a Verizon phone line installed at all. We occasionally need to send long distance faxes, but were told we have to pay $24.99 for long distance service via Openband if we want that capability. Between that and the additional $14.99 for a DVR box, the costs are quickly escalating.

    Any thoughts?

you are already paying for phone service through Openband. For Long distance, you can elect to use another carrier if you want (AT&T) but just check rates first. To send long distance faxes, Openband should be just charging you the toll rate for that call as an individual charge... not $24.99

For long distance I just use my cell phone or I use skype. And I think you could look into using some kind of online fax service too... using your internet connection.

You dont have to use Open Band as your long distance carrier; you can choose any one you want. Whichever carrier you choose should make make the arrangements with Open Band. That carrier will bill you for the call(s) based upon the rate plan you select.

Vonage for voice. We are saving a bunch of money compared to OB's voice services.
DirecTV for video. We get more features (like whole house DVR, 165 HD channels,iPad apps etc), we compared what we paid OB for premium video and found a 48-100% savings with DirecTV.
