Our house is almost 7 years old so our hardwoods have likely faded with the sun, wear and tear, etc. We would like to rip up the carpet in the living room and dining room (who puts carpet in a dining room? :rolleyes3: ) and match the existing hardwoods.

Do we need to rip up a piece and take somewhere to get it matched? Is there a flooring store you could recommend that might come HERE with samples to match it? My husband would even consider doing the work himself... any suggestions on a supplier and a way to match what's already there?

    Thanks!

The best way to match is to get free samples from the store and bring them home.

What kind of wood do you have? I just did my whole main floor with[FONT=&quot] Casa de Colour- 3/4" x 2-1/4" Gunstock Oak Prefinished Solid Stained Flooring with a 25 Year Warranty. It looks beautiful.

I have 220 sq ft left over that I'm selling for $3.49 sq/ft (it's currently selling at Lumber Liquidators for $3.87 sq/ft, tax included). Alex Teos of Teos Flooring installed my floor and did a great job. They were very fast and very careful with my furniture. 703-928-8331.

We did this two years ago and can tell you about our experience. We lived in our townhouse for 7 years as well and we had medium-light colored Bruce hardwood. Through the years, it turned into a light golden color. We had a flooring person (K&K) come out to look at it and he picked the wood that would best fit. Holding the sample next to our wood, I knew it was not going to match, but he assured us that after some time, it will too fade into that gold color. We moved about a year and a half later, but I could tell when we left that it was actually starting to blend like he said.

Not sure if there's another way about doing this, but hope that helps...and I would highly recommend K&K floors. They were competitive and price and very prompt.

I "think" Van Metre used the following in our homes:

Bruce 2" 1/4 micro-bevel, cherry, gunstock (it's lighter than cherry and darker than the oak), white-washed oak.

A few years ago (2 & 4 years respectively) we installed hwf in a few rooms on the main level, I used K & K Floors and they matched it 100% to the existing hwfs.

Last year they did the upper level and it matches as well. So I highly recommend K & K Floors - they are Korean and really did a fantastic job. We've had them out three times.

I would call the Van Metre design center and they will confirm your color and other details. That's how I got my additional floors matched.

Come by my house.......I *think* your floors are the same as ours. Bruce gunstock. If they look the same, I'll dig through all my house purchase paperwork (I'm a packrat and save it all) to see if I have the exact specs.

AFter about 3 years in our Leesburg house, Chris had Abbey Floors match the lighter oak Bruce hardwoods. I believe he was happy with the work & price (we were matching 1 room), but that was about 7 years ago.
