I am a longtime lurker and huge bbq enthusiast (well.. huge foodie in general).

My husband and I just had an excellent meal at Moley Brothers BBQ in Sterling. It's a dive-y looking place whose big draw seems to be the $5.00 meals on their menu (or their $15.99 all you can eat ribs on Fridays). I chose a pulled pork sandwich with a side of collards and an extra side of fried okra. My husband decided on the pulled pork sandwich with a side of potato salad and an extra side of sweet potato fries. The barbeque is Kansas City style. The sauce was just a little bit spicy and my collards were to die for. Our check totaled under $15! We will be back there... often. Check them out, I really hope they can stick around: http://www.moleybrothersbbq.com/

I have tried the pulled pork sandwich, beef sandwich, and beef ribs. They are all excellent and yes you are correct the sauce is a bit on the spicy side as my kids mentioned it to me according to their sensitive palate.

I tried to go about a month ago (saw their good Yelp reviews), but they were closed when they said they would be open :( Will try again!

got carry out last night and I thought the food was really good. I ordered 2 of the 2 meat platters and one value meal sandwich for $28. I thought that was a bargain. The ribs aren't baby back ribs so the meat is a bit tougher but it was very flavorful. The sauces were excellent. The beef brisket was my favorite..very tender and lots of flavor. As for the sides, the greens and potato salad were excellent. My wife prefers Carolina BBQ because she likes the vinegar sauces.

Overall, I thought this place was excellent and I'll definitely be going back.

I wrote a review for the "Original" Moley Brothers BBQ in Leesburg back in September. I went back a couple of times, and on my last visit I had a nice meal and a delightful chat with the pitmaster (pitmistress to be precise) because we were both from Kansas City. Their web site indicates that they are under new management, but I'm not sure if the change happened before or after my last time there.

Anyway, I just read a story about a feud between the family members who own the restaurant, and apparently this is what drove the opening of the new (and completely unaffiliated) Moley Brothers BBQ in Sterling. I haven't been to the new location yet, but based on some postings above (and on their Facebook page) it seems like they're having some trouble staying open.

I am encouraged by the positive reviews on Yelp for the Sterling location, so I wish them the best and will be checking them out soon.

I'm so sad that Moley Bros closed in Sterling. One day they just disappeared after leaving a note on the door saying that a fuse blew in the kitchen....? I wish I knew the real scoop.

My husband and I tried the Moley Bros in Leesburg last night. We knew about the history of the two locations, but were hoping for the same quality of food. Last night's food was terrible. We are huge BBQ fans and bad BBQ just hurts my heart. We ordered sweet tea to drink. It was not fresh, it was Nestea brand (like from a bottle or can). I'm a southern gal - I KNOW my sweet tea and I was insulted they'd pass this off as the real deal. Hmph! From now on we will stick with Famous Daves or Carolina Bros.

(I'll get my real BBQ and sweet tea fix when I visit OBX next week!)

Our experience exactly. It was confusing that both of the restaurants in Sterling and Leesburg had the same name. We loved the BBQ in Sterling so when they closed down, we tried the Leesburg restaurant. When we were greeted, we were given the background of the restaurants so we knew they weren't gong to be the same at all. I too ordered sweet tea and I was expecting a good Southern sweet tea and was really disappointed in the artificial tasting tea we were served. I ordered a sampler with pulled pork, beef brisket, and chicken....all were really terrible and I couldn't finish them. Bummer because I love my BBQ and was really pulling for them!
