First, let's just say that 5PM on a Friday before a three day weekend is NOT the time to try and find a one-way rental. Just sayin'. But, let's get to the rant.

ENS. Kaos is starting the long trek to Pensecola for Navy flight school. Stage one is getting his stuff from Chez Kaos to Blacksburg. This calls for a one way rental of a 16' truck. Needless to say, things were looking grim for the home team. All of the normal outlets were either closed or would not do a one way.

So, I tried to think of a less well known rental agency and remembered Penske. Looked'em up on the web and, guess what? Home Despot is a Penske office which means thay are opne on July 4th and have extended hours.

I called and was given an OUTRAGEOUS quote with the rational that it's a three day weekend - yadda-yadda. The young lady at the other end of the phone then said she had to go and find a truck before we could talk discounts. I think she actually went to the parking lot.....

In the time it took her to not come back to the phone I booked a one way 16' truck for pickup at HD on Monday AM for a decent price before 10% Military discount.

Moral of the story: Penske on-line. Let's hope the truck is really there on Monday.

Let me know how this goes. I have a one-way 16' rental from Penske in late July - pretty good rate but they told me they can't guarantee a truck will be available. In fact, they said " we don't guarantee the truck, just the rate" - to which my rational self said " what good is the rate without a vehicle" - however that logic was lost on the Penske rep.
