He asked me to fill up his water bottle too. With all that water he must be asking some people to use their bathroom.

We had a visit from a guy today... he was alone. He showed me his two ID cards. The solicitor card and one other. At first I thought he said he was the "Bug Guy". He definitely didn't say SAT prep. In fact he said he was specifically targeting houses with elementary aged children. He dropped a bunch of neighbors' names, too. He said he went to University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and this was part of his internship, he needed to talk to 30 moms a day, blah blah blah.

What does this guy look like? Approximate age? Just want to know in case he shows up at my door.

    Thanks!

This whole thing really creeps me out! Does anyone know where I can find a picture of what an official solicitor card looks like? I'd love to print one out and tape one to the back of my front door to compare to whatever the door-to-door guys wave at me.

    Thanks, Steve, for the link.

My first thought is, wow, what a basic looking document, this could easily be forged by my 9-yr old. In the sample the license number, issue date and expriration date seem to be in orange or red, is that how they all look, if they aren't in orange/red are they counterfeit? (That's not a question for the forum but for the Sheriff's department which published this fairly unhelpful document.) You would think there would be a county seal or something more official looking on this thing.

My next thought was, "what bad grammar the Sheriff's department has!" but I do appreciate all they do so I'll keep quiet on that front.

True...but with White Pages, you have to know the name of the person to get a number or address.

My guess is that they went onto Loudoun County's tax assessment website and got that information...because one must know which streets to look for...its easy to type it in and get a list of houses on that street along with the owner's name...

So you are probably right about that....

    Same here.

The Southwestern Company is a company (formed 1855, program started 1868) that has college students doing door-to-door sales of educational books over the summer for an average of 78 hours a week, knocking on about 35 families' doors a week.

They have a lot of complaints both around their hiring practices and selling practices.

Just report hi to LCSO as a suspicious person. With names, addresses, etc and doing shady things makes me think he is casing the neighborhood to see who is home when, etc.

I know the Deputies would love to have a nice chat with him.

This one makes me feel uneasy. I would NEVER let anyone that I don't know into my house to use the bathroom. He could be doing that so he can "case" the house inside to see what you might have in the lving room or other rooms on the way to the bathroom. I would tell the guy...you need the bathroom---go to McDonalds or Taco Bell or any other restaurant in Southern Walk Plaza...its safer for all involved. Too much risk there to let someone in.

True, some cops would be interested in learning why some stranger is going around "dropping names" of neighbors, etc. Kind of sinister to me. To me its like he's trying to gain one's trust to get their guard down.

Again, I could be wrong but Id rather err on the wrong side to be safe than sorry.

He came back to my door for a 2nd time on Saturday. I had to make it VERY CLEAR that we were not interested. This guy is persistent!
