Does anyone have any information on the motorcycle accident yesterday around 5-5:30PM? My son and I were trying to make it to Broad Run HS and came upon this accident. It appeared the victim was receiving CPR at the time and my son and I are praying for good news about him.

    Thank you,

Thank you for finding this and posting it.

That's too bad, it's really a shame. I was talking to another parent who said he believes it was the 4th accident in 5 days at that intersection.

While all the activity was going on, a driver in a small 4 door drove around the emergency vehicles and continued on Ashburn Rd. towards Broad Run HS. The Sheriff's Deputy was talking to somoone when the person drove by he just stood there shaking his head. The really sad things is, it only took me 4 minutes to make the detour around the accident and get back onto Ashburn Rd.

We avoid that intersection if at all possible. It is very hard to see to cross.

That should be a four way stop because of visibility issues, especially at night.

Same here.. Driving to Broad Run with my son and saw the aftermath, so sad. I searched last night to find something on the accident hoping for a better outcome, but it did not look good at the scene. I actually was over cautious trying to get around the scene I think I annoyed police because I was not sure if he was waving us to go or the ambulance. There was alot of confusion and it was right at rush hour plus a number of us trying to get to Broad run.

It is an extremely dangerous intersection. I think some people assume it is a 4 way stop. And even stopped you can't see, especially if a larger vechicle pulls up next to you. Being so close to a school and such a busy interesection something needs to be done.

    no more four way stops!

make the stop signs on the cross road more visible if need be. Put those flashers on them.

I drove by shortly after it happened. Saw the motorcycle on the ground behind the pick up and figured it wasn't good.
Move the 4-way stop from the Ashburn Rd/Old Shellhorn Rd a few hundred feet to the south to this intersection. There is very, very little cross traffic there, now that old Shellhorn was vacated.

They left the four way stop at Ashburn Road and Shellhorn (the dirt road/ cul de sac road) a few feet up the road. They need to take that out and move it to Faulkner/ Broadlands Blvd. And while they're at it, they need to remove the four way stop from in front of the In-N-Out Mart/ Papa Johns strip mall and either move it over to Ashburn Road or that road that leads from Home Depot.

Honestly, aren't there people somewhere getting paid to look into stuff like this? There are road issues all over Loudoun that need to be addressed (and I'm not just talking traffic stuff- I'm talking lanes that end with no signage, roads with two lanes where the lane markings disappear, etc.). Also, the fact that several of the Ashburn Roads are in such poor condition they're going back to gravel or have raised manhole covers...

    So sad for the family...

    Completely agree.

Too many drivers fail the 4-way stop IQ test as it is, or simply believe these are 4-way yields.

I recently was stopped behind a person who stopped at the four-way stop nearest the nature Center, the driver let six other cars go ahead before proceeding.

Manhole covers are typically streets that are not finished... this is generally streets built by developers who haven't yet turned them over to the state/county. It's not uncommon for this condition to exist for many years.

The 3 way stop in front of the strip mall is more needed then this one because the visibility there is even worse. It's at an angle, it's obstructed, it's miserable. It's a miserable setup that I wish they would kill that road all together - but then that probably would bring up lawsuits from the property owners who would count on the access that road provides (the undeveloped land to the east). Right now that road is mainly used by the apartments, which is totally unnecessary and I would love for it to go away all together. But I doubt it will.

The four way stop at old Shellhorn needs to go totally.

Our streets are 20+ years old. Someone dropped the ball on the manholes (or got paid off- there was a Loudoun zoning inspector many years ago that was convicted of taking bribes from asphalt contractors-that's my bet...).

There are lots of small things VDOT/County could do regarding traffic issues such as Cliff's suggestion. There are areas where stop signs could be moved/added, lanes restripped (i.e. nokes blvd over 28 so we have 2 lanes going over - one to go to atlantic and one to go south on 28), etc. that would make these locations much safer.

We can always contact VDOT as well. Squeaky wheel.

    From Vdot:

The Loudoun County Office of Transportation Services is working with VDOT’s Traffic Engineering Section to close Shellhorn Road between Ashburn Road and Faulkner Parkway. This will allow the multi-way stop at the Shellhorn Road-Ashburn Road to be removed and relocated to the Ashburn Road – Faulkner intersection.

Well who knows how long that will take. Why can't they put a four way stop at Ashburn Rd and Faulkner in the meantime to alleviate all the accidents/potential accidents at that intersection?

I think they are currenlty working on the road closure - i saw crews out their earlier this week. They can't put a 4way stop up because that is the logical solution. the governemt does not support that type of thinking
