Has anyone tried the new Vietnamese place by Safeway (in the old Saigon Star location)? I'm missing my local pho fix since Pho Bistro closed (temporarily, they're supposed to reopen soon near 5 Guys.)

I went yesterday. It's owned and run by the same people who owned and ran Saigon Star. They renovated the place and it looks nicer. The pho is good.

The pho broth was good. I thought they were a little skimpy on the garnishes, like bean sprouts and onions. We also had an order of the fresh spring rolls and there was not enough peanut sauce for the full order for our liking (if we had dined in, I would have asked for more). They're currently offering 10% off for their grand opening.

My favorite pho is still Pho Royal.

I've been to Pho Royal several times (both the Leesburg and Sterling locations) but the broth seems too oily for me and the service is lacking.

I'm so glad Pho Bistro is back open, we went on Sunday and it was yummy as always and the service friendly.

    I'll try Pho Mekong soon.

Are you sure about that? It's the same guy working there from before.

The people working the front are the same but the cook in the back is different.

Ahh. Fair enough. I guess I just assumed that he was the owner.

Kids and I had dinner there last night. We were the only ones there. I'm Vietnamese and my sister owns a pho restaurant in Springfield so I'm pretty picky, my daughter is not.

Pho broth was good. A little sweeter than I prefer but still good. The crispy eggrolls are good, a little over crispy but my daughter liked it. Didn't taste at all greasy.

We got the sticky rice w/ mango for dessert. I've had better at Thai restaurants. I think there was too much sticky rice and not enough coconut milk.. but it was good.

    Hope they make it.

I think the Pho Mekong is great. My favorite is Pho Bac in Chantilly, so I am always comparing. But it's great to find one closer. Don't care at all for the Pho Bistro. But I always only get the soup. My girlfriend and I definitely think there's a drug in it because it is a cure-all for what ails ya! I hope more people frequent this place so it sticks around..for once!

We went there the other day. Yummy! Great for a rainy day, too. Very similar to Saigon Star.

Tried Pho Mekong for the first time...the food was great. The triangle shrimp rolls were excellent. The vermicelli was also very good.

The only downside (a very minor one) is that the portions are not huge. They're not skimpy, but don't expect leftovers (like I have with chinese takeout).

Prices were fair...not as cheap as chinese takeout, but better quality.

I will DEFINATELY be going back, as the food quality was excellent.

We ate there about 3 weeks ago, and have been back there at least once a week now, the food is good, looks to be the same owner (as the last Saigon Star), but they have new cooks... Pho is so good as well as their other Vietnamese dishes. :2thumbs:

Pho Royal in Leesburg, off Fort Evan's Road is a winner. Delicious, and better than Pho Mekong- if you dont mind driving into Leesburg.

I agree! My family loves Pho Royal! The Sterling location is just as good

The pho at Xuan Saigon in Leesburg is pretty tasty, but the broth is saltier. If you call the owner before 2 PM, you can ask her to make Banh Mi. All of the ingredients, down to the liver paste and bread, are made fresh. GOOD STUFF.

LOVE Pho Royal! Had the most tender beef ever there, can't remember the dish itself but it was sliced and simply delish.
