On Friday, September 2, after the Briar Woods - Broad Run football game, approximately 100 high school students dressed in all white descended on the Southern Walk McDonald's. I'm told that they were unruly, danced on tables, broke some things, and even assaulted a female employee (not sure how badly.)

I'm surprised that I could not find anything about this on the Forums.

A police officer did intervene and broke things up. Everything was recorded on McDonald's cameras, and the police are continuing to investigate. Hopefully some arrests will come out of this, although juveniles as we know will only get their hands slapped.

I'm told that there continue to be an uncomfortable number of unruly teenagers late Friday and Saturday nights, and that there will be an increased police presence. I would hope that parents with high schoolers will discuss this matter with their kids, and that anyone with a teenager who dressed in all white on September 2 investigate this matter further with their child.

McDonald's employees are understandably nervous working late at night. It's a shame that this is the reputation that our community has now gotten.

    You "heard" and "were told".
Does anyone know exactly what occurred?
Groups of teens going out after a sporting event is not unusual. In fact, it's normal.

Was it in the papers? Police report? Haven't seen any report as to such.

I believe both Briar Woods and Broad Run students were dressed in white shirts to show support for a Broad Run alumni who was attacked while attending WVU in 2009.

I would not be surprised if the lack of publicity is an effort to starve their need for publicity.

This doesn't make any sense to me here.

They are supporting an alumni who was attacked while attending WVU in 2009 and they go off to McDonalds to raise cain and attack a female employee? *shaking head at this* Not sure what this Broad Run Alumni would think of all this, if true.

Not sure what to think here....this is odd.

I do not know exactly what happened, but as a Briar Woods employee, I do know that the game was a "white out". Everyone in attendance was supposed to dress in white. The unruliness is not surprising. Last year after the first Briar Woods/Broad Run game, there was a VERY large fight that occurred in the restaurant that spilled out into the parking lot, that ended up getting posted on youtube.

If it indeed happened, then that's really stupid.

Briar Woods has gotten a reputation of being aggressive with their enthusiasm.

I asked a friend who works directly for the family that owns our McD's, here is what she wrote, exactly:

I'm reading these threads after the quote from McDonald's was removed, so I don't know what was said on the Forum. But since I am directly responsible for the management of the shopping center, I am aware that McDonald's contacted Van Metre, told us that they witnessed the video of the event, including the assault on an employee, and witnessed the police officer entering the restaurant and the kids scattering. Sorry if it sounded as if I was reporting unverified gossip, but that is not the case. I do not, however, have any information as to where the police investigation stands, only that they are reviewing the matter.

For those of you that think McDonald's is doing this as a publicity stunt or that think this kind of behavior is justified as 'kids being kids', I cannot disagree more. I live in Broadlands and witness first-hand the instances of disrespect that some teenagers (a small percentage) have for personal property and the well-being of others and often times themselves. I was wild teenager once too, so I don't mean to be hypocritical. I would just hope that parents with teenagers would be as proactive as possible in preventing such acts, so that things don't become even worse and someone gets really hurt.

I'm not bashing any particular school. I went to Broad Run and my kids will go to Briar Woods. I love 'em all. I'm more about having a safe neighborhood to raise our kids.

On Friday, Sept. 16 at around 12:30am there was an incident at the Harris Teeter. A number of teens stole cases of beer. I did not witness the event but arrived immediately after it occurred and did see a case of beer dropped outside the door. Police were called.

Hopefully, Mr. Hausch is also aware of this event. Perhaps there should be an increase in security at the shopping center.
