Probably because the people coming from Truro Parish add to the volume up stream...

<wondering where Steve's red light rebuttal is after 2 different calls for them in this thread.. >

This is also a classic maneuver onto LCP from Shellhorn into 50+ mph traffic.... almost all 'big people' doing it there though. I use every opportunity to completely criticize this behavior if my kids are in tow (yep, if your doing this my kids think you are an idiot too)

Nearly had my front end torn off commuting from class last night at waxpool/ashburn village. Some idiot thought it was beneath him/her to have to wait a minute or before reaching the ‘yellow’ stripes (much less the actual turn lane itself), and used the oncoming traffic lane to bypass 15-20 cars as I was heading into the left turn lane (almost raged at that one :censored:).

Another recent Darwinian observation is the utter lack of disregard for the 25MPH school speed limit in front of Stone Bridge around 4. Come on folks…. really??? Doing this in front of brand new drivers en masse?

Our youth definitely have plenty of shining examples to emulate themselves after. If parents are driving their cars like that with their kids strapped in, their hypocritical demands to ‘fly straight’ are not going to hold up what-so-ever. I often wonder if it ever crosses someone’s mind that a child may be observing and learning from another vehicle when they pull a dangerous stunt. Is it possible that, after years of daily reinforcement, he/she will drive just like this and kill someone else’s children?

Sorry to get morbid, but all of us should really stop to contemplate the bigger picture and hopefully realize that we have a collective responsibility to set an example for our youth, parents or not. I always play it by the book in the neighborhoods and local roads, but I'm no saint by any stretch of the imagination and do ramp it up on the toll road/highways. Even then, there are several safety practices at play with proper distance and being able to read, forecast, and react to the situation around you. I will be explaining that concept and the associated 'legal risks' to mine when the time comes or whenever they ask why I'm 'slightly over' the 65mph posted limit :)

I don't have an issue with redlights in a design like this.. it's when the intersections aren't placed right so people want one every 200ft :)

Crosen is a major outlet.. so having a light setup like Broadlands Blvd would make sense... but I wouldn't want one at all three interchanges (Crosen, Turo and Broadlands).

The village/waxpool thread though.. that I think should be a roundabout :)

That's an interesting concept, but having a hard time visualizing it working at peak capacity given the self important attitudes and lemming mentalities I've personally observed. Should be great entertainment at go-live though. :)

I was just yanking your chain. I appreciate your observations and insights. Your dialog has, on more than one occasion, triggered a critical reassessment of my viewpoints - awesome stuff.

    Cheers...

The Crosen turn is so close to the stop sign where Belmont Ridge dumps into Belmont Ridge. True, this traffic all makes its way up to Truro and Broadlands Blvd also... but after a mile or two. When you are that close to a turn that is constantly supplied with cars (rush hour, or school events hours) you get a more steady stream than farther down the road.

By the time the traffic makes it up to Truro and Broadlands, a car going the speed limit has fallen far enough behind another car going 55 MPH to allow cars to come out. There are more breaks in the traffic farther from the source

At Crosen, you get a drip effect with one car coming every 3 seconds as people roll through that stop one at a time.

I just have to resurrect this in case anyone else came across the construction/repaving going on at the Croson/Belmont Ridge intersection today. It was the worst planned traffic detour I have come across in a long time. No cars at that intersection were allowed to continue/turn onto Belmont Ridge heading north! But no signs indicating this as you head onto Croson from Claiborne, thus forcing you to turn left at the intersection, do a u-turn by the school, then drive back into Broadlands turning back onto Croson and find another way to get onto Belmont. Needless to say I wasted a good 10 minutes sitting in construction traffic then forced to head in an opposite way with no signs indicating this. I could have avoided Croson altogether had there been some notice before taking this route! Sorry, just venting!

1grtchr, I was so mad when I hit that. So poorly planned.

Winston, completely agree - I was fuming! And for those cars merrily making their way down Belmont Ridge heading towards Rt. 7, they were forced to turn onto Croson but no detour signs telling them where to access Belmont again. All the cars in front of me turned into the new development at the end of Croson assuming it would get them somewhere but the neighborhood is under construction so no other exit point. Not everyone has a GPS and familiar enough with Broadlands to get themselves to Truro Parish for another access to Belmont. So poorly done. When I rolled down my window to ask what appeared to be a supervisor standing there watching traffic where the detours signs were - completely ignored me.

I hope not, as we told our son to enter Belmont Ridge Road from Broadlands Blvd at the LIGHT and he witnessed an accident on Belmont Ridge Road and shook him up.
