We were Wachovia customers for over 10 years until the recent transition to Wells Fargo. Like many others that I have read about, we are EXTREMELY unhappy with the way online bill-pay is managed by Wells Fargo. In essence, Wells Fargo puts a hold on your funds up to 5-7 business days in advance of the bill pay date in order to 'help you budget your finances'. Wachovia didn't register the payment until the bill pay date.

Has anyone else experienced this frustration with Wells Fargo? And can anyone provide a recommendation for a bank that has an online bill pay system that you are happy with.

    Thanks!

    PNC

cheap (read: free), good policies, and easy to deal with. If you keep 2k in the account as a monthly average, you can even get all other bank ATM fees refunded... no more worrying which ATM you use, etc. Plus they do online AND quicken banking.. again for free.

One tip, don't open an account online, do it in person. That way your home branch is your actual local branch, and you have to do signature cards anyways.. so in person is quicker.

I need more hands.. for more thumbs up for PNC

Bank of America.. fund is in your account until date of payment via online banking. so you can schedule future payments and it will not change your current available balance.

    Simple.

I use Bank of America, it's very easy. You will have the money until online payment is sent.

We've been with Middleburg Bank for years and used their online bill pay for 6 years or so. No problems at all. I have also heard good things about Apple Federal Credit Union.

Another vote for BoA - very easy to use and no issues like you mentioned above.

BoA charges for non-BoA ATM withdrawals.. lame. So taking out money on the go if you can't find a BoA ATM means double dipping fees.. both BoA and the ATM provider will charge you.

And you need direct deposit or $1500 balance to avoid a $12 fee on checking accounts.. the free checking is only free if you never use a teller.

ATM fees can roll up quickly when you are talking $4-$5 a transaction.

I prefer not paying for other people's ATMs and getting refunded what other banks charge me.

BofA is also instituting a $5 a month fee if you choose to carry a debit card on your account - on top of any other fees you're paying. There are plenty of reviews online of some of their service practices if you look.

We are very happy PNC customers - I recommend PNC with no reservations at all.

I was a very delighted Chevy Chase customer for 15 years, then Capital One swooped in and screwed up everything... especially their online bill payment, which can't suck enough.

#1 Credit Unions (if you can become a member DO IT!)
#2 Middleburg Bank (switched over from Chevy Chase when Capital One took over)

By the way, the Online Bill Pay at Middleburg is exactly the same software my CU uses and I love it!!

I shopped 'em all.. including CUs.. and still ended up at PNC :) Can't say it enough.. if you don't want to pay ATM fees, and want electronic services.. it's the place to be :)

While Apple FCU is easy to get an account in (if you have a child that goes to a Loudoun County School)... I am not impressed with their in-branch services. Everytime we've been there the wait time has been at least 15-20 mins.

I have BoA and AppleFCU -- BoA has great online banking, and everything is free if you have a direct deposit (who doesn't?). I don't use a debit card so the $5 fee doesn't matter to me (but it still is lame).

I get all my loans @ Apple -- they have good rates. their online services, like most credit unions, are a hodgepodge of different systems taped together and that is why we use BoA for checking.

I've had wells fargo accounts twice in my life. Each time I've said never again. Let's hope it sticks this time...

I have two credit union accounts at the moment, NFCU and Kinecta.
