Our upstairs water frequently smells bad. It comes and goes and I've tried all the "tricks", short of getting a plumber out here.

We have the same issue, please post if you find a remedy. I've done all the tricks too, vinegar, baking soda, boiling water, bleach, etc.

We had the same thing, called the water company and they came out to flush the system by running the fire hydrant for a bit. The smell got better but has recently returned after about a month.

I don't think it tastes funny, but I grew up on well water with all kinds of metals in it.

I have one sink upstairs that smells like sulfer for a few secs after turning on the hot water, but then it goes away. Other sink, shower, and tub in the same room don't have the problem, so it's a mystery to me.

I have read that it might be because the sacrificial rod in the hot water heater is starting to go. Mine does not look to be replaceable though...

This may sound funny.... It just may be me and my crazy mind - but I feel that the smell is not as strong if I wait for the air "bubbles" to go away, once I fill a glass, before tasting the water. However, when we boil the water for any cooking, like making tea, or use in oatmeal etc., there are times when the smell is quite significant. And we only notice it from time to time... it never is a constant.

Just turn on your faucet and let the water run for a bit and I think the smell/taste dissipates. Must be something to do with the water sitting in the pipes for an extended period.

It's not a smell but a taste. It tastes terrible. I wish it tasted like chlorine.

It definitely smells and tastes of chlorine. We've been in Loudoun for 16 years and it's always been this way. We usually drink the filtered water from our fridge. I rarely drink from the tap.

Oh no, not here. I moved here to get away from those things.

Seriously though, we have he same thing in the master bath, and only MY sink (of course). Always assumed it was from the air displacement in the drain and not the water itself, but now I'm wondering why it's only one sink...
