I'm looking for one. Or at least a place that makes good hard italian grinder rolls.

Good luck with that, most people around here think Dominos and Papa Johns is gourmet pizza.

Nothing that would come anywhere near what you'd find in Federal Hill, Providence or Pawtucket! I miss New England!!

So I suppose asking about an Italian butcher or salumeria would be fruitless too, huh?

For a salumeria you need to go into DC. It's not local, but if your in DC stop by A Litteri over by Gallaudet University. I personally think its worth the trip in to DC and then spend some time in town. As far as bakeries good luck, I have tried Vaccaro's and Cornucopi in Bethesda in the past and they are good, but I wouldn't make a special trip. Headed up to NYC for Thanksgiving and can't wait to stock up.

GReat Harvest Bread is coming here soon- not Italian but wonderful fresh bread. Farmer's markets are the best bet for finding better bread.

    +1

I've been looking for hoagie rolls around here for over 10 years. Nothing.

Now I just wait until I go to NJ every few months.

The Deli in Herndon by the Kmart gets bread shipments in from NY, at least they used to, you can place an order and they'll bring them on the next truck...I still get my 6 foot wedges from there, but haven't ordered bread in awhile...can get kaiser rolls from them too....

Now you are speaking my language. Italian deli's and bakeries on every corner in RI. I guess I will just swing by the Italian Store on my way out of DC from time to time.
