I have a maple that has overgrown a spot between two homes (approx 50 ft tall) - needs to come down. Had a couple of guys from outside the area ring the doorbell - said they were in the area cutting down trees. Quoted me $525 to cut down the tree, remove the wood and grind the stump to ground level. If anyone has had a tree service take down a tree lately, what was the going rate?

We used Care of Trees to remove a tree, grind a stump and do some other work on some of our trees and it was right around $500. I would be careful about guys knocking on doors offering services as they may not be insured. We tried a couple of other tree services around and they all wanted basically $500 to come on your property. All the best and hope it goes well.

tommyboy - due to the size of the tree, an application will need to be submitted to the Modifications Sub-Committee for approval prior to removal.

Really? Where was the Mod Sub Comm when Van Meter was planting the trees 10 ft from our houses, driveways and sidewalks? Another example of how big government doesn't work.

Clearly, the builder didn't have anyone with any type of landscape training planting the trees in this subdivision. Everyone I have talked to has removed something.

Fortunately, the application process is relatively easy.

As is the case with most any HOA governing body, the builder will always have "right of way" until they are completely off the board(s).
