    Hi all,

We feel like getting away into the mountains, or at least away from NoVA, for a long weekend in the near future. Like a cabin on a mountain with great views, not too rustic, just a place to unwind and relax. If you have any recommendations or places to look into, I'd appreciate it. If you have a secret go-to place, you can PM me and I promise not to share ;-).

    thanks.

wow that Great Smoky Mountains place looks perfect! Unfortunately it may be too far away. We're hoping to stay within 2.5 hours drive, give or take. The James River places look intriguing, thanks!

Berkeley Springs, WV. Not too far and lots of cabin rentals. You can also stay at a modest cabin in Cacapon Resort State Park.

We like Bryce resort in Basye, VA. It's about 100 miles from here. It is beautiful there. bryceresort.com for some info.

A bit longer drive than you wanted, but consider http://meadowlanecottages.com/ I go there every spring for a fly-fishing trip. Saw a bald eagle in flight there once.

thanks all. I've been looking at VRBO, found some possibilities but appreciate your responses and any more that y'all may have.

We definitely are feeling the mountain top cabin vibe. We just did St. Michaels in the spring, great day or weekend trip with kids.

We stayed at that house a couple of years ago. We chose it for the view and were not disappointed!

You have to go to Deep Creek. Tons of lodging, etc. Close to 2.5 hours if you have a lead foot. Could ski, tube, or mountain coaster. I think it may be a little late for hiking. Try Railey Realty, or Long and Foster for vacation rentals. There are also a lot of restaurants there.
