does it really matter if this thread continues? i mean really, it's just like TV, if you don't like what's on, change the channel. same applies here, if this thread is upsetting to you, don't read it. we're all adults, and it seems a lot of users are passionate and opinionated, and that is okay, let them be. regadless of who is on whatever side of the issue, information is being shared. isn't that a good thing?!?!

    Lol
I am little late to join the thread .. But just incase anyone would like to know

As a responsible parent it is my duty to inform anyone associated with theboydmontessori school as a parent student or teacher about an incident that occurred.*My son is in kindergarten. He has asthma , uses the inhaller , nebulizer and steroids depending on the severity of the attack. His asthma is triggered mainly by emotions. On crying for a long time , his blood vessels rupture and are clearly visible on his face around his eyes and cheeks.
This being already told to the school.*I happened to be in school unannounced.*I heard a piercing cry from the hall way. I peeped out to see what was the matter, to be aghast to see my son crying alone in the hallway sitting by the fire extinguisher. The hallway way empty.. No teacher watching him , no body responding to his cry for help. his health does not permit this . Being left all alone to cry can cause serious health problems apart from the remote chance of choking for need of inhaler. The teacher put him out in the hallway and went for her coffee break!

Oh, that's horrible - what are the odds that you would stop in and then discover your son in that situation? It think that teacher needs serious counseling.

I hope your son is okay.

Thank you yes he is ok we have had to change classrooms and he thinks somehow he has done something wrong and keeps asking for one more chance to be good :( but thank you it feels good that others feel the same as me as it reinforces my belief in standing up for the right

I was glad to see this thread up. We're in the process of trying to chose a school for my son for full-day kindergarten next year. We had originally just planned to send him to public K, but based on feedback we've gotten from his teachers and other people, we've decided to go private, at least for K.

We visited Boyd, and I've talked to some parents who've had kids there. I love Montessori as a philosophy, and I really like Boyd's facility, but I think we've eliminated it from the running.

Can anyone share any experiences with Arris Montessori or Belmont Greene? Golden Pond was also suggested to us, so I'd love feedback on that too. I'm tempted by the kindergarten enrichment program at Golden Pond (where my son would go to public K, then go to GP for a few more hours), mostly because it's so much more affordable than full-day private kindergarten.

Any thoughts? Feel free to PM me too.

At last year's MOMS Club preschool forum this was listed as the contact person for Arris. This person supposedly is a parent with a child at the school, not a school representative.

Just FYI my sister teaches 1st grade at a public school and she recommends that if you plan to send your children to public school it is important that they attend K at a public school. The reason being is they learn the systems that the public schools follow. The children that come from private schools are sometimes doing better with number and letters but often struggle getting through the day. My children attend the Ha'penney Montessori School(great school) and I was not planning on sending them to public K but I am rethinking it.

We did full day private K and then public elementary in this area. We didn't have that problem at all, but I can certainly see it being an issue if the private K doesn't teach behavioral issues well (sitting at desks, taking turns when speaking, green/yellow/red light system, etc.). Certainly something to ask the private K when researching them

We also had a very bad experience with Boyd School in Chantilly. Teacher was very unfriendly. She is not nurturing at all to the point that my daughter runs to the door when I come pick her up. She was only there for 3 weeks and have to pull her out (and pay another 3 mos coz of the contract) and we placed her in Chesterbrook. I know the Boyd School in Chantilly is having a lot of issues and turn over as well. The school seems very impressive on the tour but bottom line is the teacher has to bond with the kids so she can be effective.

FWIW, after talking to several parents and visiting a bunch of the schools, I liked Belmont Greene and Arris best. My son will probably be starting kindergarten at Arris this fall.

I wish to extend an invitation to the Boyd School's open house on Saturday, January 28 from 10am - 2pm. In addition to personal school tours and the opportunity to meet with our credentialed teachers, current and former Boyd School parents and students will be available to answer questions.
