Tony's Cousin owns Buon Appetito by the Babies r us in Chantilly. They basically have the same menu as Tony's. Great pizza and an awesome eggplant parm sub. Yum!!!

Had a horrible, horrible customer service experience with Manhattan Pizza at Farmwell Hunt yesterday. It was our first time ever ordering from them, and we won't do it again.

I attempted to order a cheese-free pizza (because my husband and I are vegan) online. There was no way to get the order to go through without selecting a cheese, so I put in BIG BOLD letters "NO CHEESE" in the special comments. When our pizza was delivered with cheese, I called to try to get it fixed. I was happy to bring our pizza back to get the correct order, even though we had had it delivered, and it's really not my responsibility to do that when they made the mistake. But the guy on the phone told me there was nothing he could do except give us 10% off our next order. Well, that doesn't really help us when we've just paid for a pizza that we can't eat. When we said that we just wouldn't order from there again, the guy just said, "Eh, one family out of Ashburn won't matter." Gee, thanks. Glad to know they care so much about their customers. Pizza smells good, not that we can eat it. Money down the drain.

ETA: Oh, the guy's reason for not fixing our pizza was that he claimed that there were no special instructions, even though I absolutely did put them in. What a mystery, considering that I requested whole wheat crust in the special instructions, and the pizza that was delivered to us had a whole wheat crust. I wonder how they magically knew to do that? Oh, they also put black olives on the pizza, not kalamata, which is what I ordered, but I'm sure I'm lying about that too. :screwy:

one would think if you need something so special, and the online ordering didn't support that, why didn't you just call instead of relying on some chance the notes field would override the rest of the system?

I'm not trying to justify the way they responded to you... but one has to take some self-responsibility when one tries to go outside the norm. I would never have counted on some 'disconnected' system to accommodate such a niche requests.

I've never had a problem ordering online from any other pizza place. I suppose being a vegan is niche, but I do know a lot of families who are dairy-free because of lactose intolerance, allergies, or both. The other issue is that they clearly did see the special requests, because the crust selection I put in the comment section is what was delivered to us. They just said that I was lying about it and that they didn't need my business.

I have a hard time believing that a vegan would have trusted an online ordering system to place an order for a cheese free pie. Was their something on Manhattan's website that stated specifically that their sauce was cheese free? A majority of pizzerias add parmesan or Romano cheese to their sauce but you wouldn't know without specifically asking. I am definitley not in support of the poor customer service that you were given when you called to complain, but if you wanted to be assured that your pizza was truly vegan, then perhaps you should have went the extra step and called.

The choice not to call is a risk... but the true issue here is customer service. Did you talk to an owner or a manager when you called back? Manhattan is a good place and from my experience, great with customer service. Hopefully someone will look into this further.
