Ladies, I am in search of a new stylist who has a knack for point-cut, piecey hair design, who can work magic with a texturizer. If he/she is also a master of color, that's another plus, but if there is another colorist at the same salon, that works well, too. Any recommendations would be helpful.

    Thanks!

"Rain" in Ashburn Farm is fabulous. Lori is especially good with both color and texture. I just started using them in Dec after getting fed up with Radiance and Joy Salon's lack of panache and professionalism and other local salons that charge an arm and a leg for a cut that I had to modify myself when I get home.

Lori listens - not just during the consult but throughout the cut, asking you how and what you want done next, checking you're ok and delivering a great result.

Highly recommend - and it's a hive of activity so I guess other Ashburn ladies like it too.

http://www.rainsalonofashburn.com/ and five stars on Google reviews - http://maps.google.com/maps/place?u...lt&ct=placepage-link&resnum=1&ved=0CDIQ4gkwAA

I don't go to Rain, but have many friends that do, and they all look great. Have heard great things about Melanie there. She does great work.

These are all great suggestions! Thank you! I'm leaning toward Rain. I, too, have to try and correct cuts from my current stylist, which is the reason for my search.

Anyone still go to Hairport? Years ago, they received rave reviews.

Another vote for Rain. I actually ask Sonya not to spray my hair so i don't have to wash it as soon! It seems every stylist there is fantastic, and they all like each other :)

I have been going to Hairport for years and Adrea is amazing. Definitely ask for her.

I completely agree. She is a master colorist and does a fantastic job on my short hair, especially with texturizing!

Look no further ... Shelley Collins at Hairport is your girl. She has been my hairdresser for nearly 10 years. She's great with piece-y cuts, and knows her way around texturizers. She's also a great colorist - many of my friends, at my referral, also go to her! She's very busy (another good sign!) so call soon to get an appointment ... Hairport's # is 703/430-3400. If you should choose to go to her tell her Amy sent you! Good luck with whomever you choose!

I have short hair, too! You know how frequent maintenance is involved, especially with color. Having a stylist who can't remember my style every 4. - 5 weeks is a mess.

I agree that Salon Vie is excellent. Vicky is especially good with hair coloring, she is able to consistently keep mine the exact shade of brown that I like, great with highlights as well!

The recently moved to Ashburn Shopping Plaza. the salon is gorgeous and everyone is friendly and professional.

P.S., I tried Rain and was not impressed with the color application nor the length of time the color lasted.

Well based on this thread, it's luck of the draw - I've tried Modern Concepts (came home with hair shorter on one side of my head than the other, and that was an owner cut), tried Radiance but the service sucks; tried Joy but the atmosphere sucks and the salon is poorly managed. Now trying Rain.

I think you're lucky to find a good hairstylist and win for the long term, but at least there are some valid recommendations on this page that can help!

Would love to hear where you end up going and what you think.

And might I add, what you pay for a cut and color is no guarantee of the outcome.

I tried Eclips (when they were in Ashburn Shopping Center) as well. When I went there I took along the color mix my prior stylist was using (I started shopping around because I couldn't take the drive to Springfield anymore). I said, this is what she has been using, but I am open to suggestions. I don't know what she did, but the color was awful, knew it as soon as it was done processing. She copped an attitude, but did the color again. I wasn't thrilled about another application because my skin reacts with one application, let alone 2. It costs too much money to leave not being happy. But my point is, I gave her the chance to correct the color, and she did. If I had a cut that was uneven, you betcha I'd be back as soon as I saw it and get it corrected. Brit sorry you had a bad experience at Modern Concepts.

I used to see Trish at Eclipse, and received a different style every time I came in for a trim (despite giving specifics of what I wanted). One day she was running two clients behind schedule. Another stylist promised she would trim my hair to my liking, since her station was next to Trish's, and she assured me she knew my style. She totally butchered it. That was my last visit to Eclipse.

I'm thinking Hairport. I promise to share my experience. Thanks so much, ladies!

I LOVE Eclips Salon (now in Brambleton) been going for years since I moved to the area. Given the comments above, maybe it's not the salon, but the stylist. Jennifer Bowles at Eclips is fantastic. There are several Jen's but I can only speak for Jennifer Bowels. Appt. are always on time, always remembers everything we discussed previously as far as growing my hair out, etc. She nails my color every time. She suggests products that will work on my texture, but doesn't push anything. I have long thick hair with layers and get it colored about every 5-6 months. Worth every penny for peace of mind that I'm never going to be surprised by a absent minded stylist. Good luck!

Ladies, thank you for all the reccomendations! I'm here to share my good news:

So today I went to Rain, and worked with Mellanie. I explained that I wanted to grow my hair out, which as you all know, can wear one's patience. We talked about my face shape and how different lengths around my face would enhance certain features. She was very thorough and understood what I was looking for.

I headed to the sink for a fantastic, massaging shampoo. The shampoo chairs have kick-out ottomans, which is a plus if you're vertically challenged. I was very comfortable.

The cut exceeded my expectations. I love it! And I was out the door in less than an hour. Polite, knowledgeable staff. Beautifully decorated and clean. And the price was reasonable, in my opinion, considering I worked with a senior stylist. I plan on going back in 4 weeks for another cut and my first color with her - which i learned is Mellanie's specialty.

If you, too, are looking for a new salon, try Rain.

    Thanks again!

Glad to hear Rain worked out for you! It's great to have a reliable go-to place right in the heart of Ashburn! I'm always surprised they don't advertise more, but I guess they don't need to!
