The thing people fail to think about with the hospital... is it wouldn't have just been the hospital. Other business would have followed. And that hospital was guaranteed. Instead we get a lot of open land with no development and to answer the Mason question. They haven't even established a potential build date.

Add to this, IF Loudoun opts out of Metro we will be in this predicament for a long time. Because development will have no reason to come to southern Ashburn and force it's employees to pay Greenway tolls when it can be in Herndon/Reston on the Metro or Rt. 7/Rt. 28 on the non-tolled roads.

And the thing about a hospital would have been the Medical facilities built around it....where high end Service employees work and economic shocks are relatively small...

I always wonder if the BOS could go back and see if HCA would reconsider Broadlands (its first choice) and pave the way for it to move forward.

The HCA hospital is being built at the intersection of Gum Springs and rt 50.

Remember when WorldCom (MCI) and AOL were "businesses."

I think much of the Wcom buildings are still empty and Verizon underutilizes the complex. Back 10-15 years ago, there were huge plans for both sides of waxpool.

This Board will NOT consider any attempt for the hospital to move back to Broadlands.

Maybe if Ashburn would get some bigger shopping, like Hobby Lobby or the Great Indoors, there would be more of a lunch crowd with ladies lunches out followed by shopping. Id like to see a Trader Joes
move to Southern Walk, since the previous Bloom locations are not an option.

    Cliff......thanks for the reply...

just out of interest...from your perspective does ashburn make it difficult or attractive for business to select it as a location...

I recall the board meeting I went to discussing the OpenBand issue and remember the silly discussion around the data center and a turtle.... is it always that hard?

For large businesses, there's a lot of competition with Dc/Fairfax counties. Fairfax generally has more inventory of buildings and can offer more incentives to businesses to get them.
Access to transit is always an interest to large employers. This is why I think Metro to Loudoun is critical to the future growth of our commercial base.

Sorry, don't remember the data center/turtle discussion!

Kevin, thanks for posting the reminder for us. We are expecting a big turnout tonight during 6:30-8:00pm. So if you want to come out, I'd suggest come early before 6pm or after 8pm. As you all know, Nikki and Jerri and I always strive to provide our best service and we want the last experience to be a positive one. Please be reminded that we're still open for lunch tomorrow for dine-in. After 4pm tomorrow, we can entertain only takeout and delivery orders. Hope to see you today and tomorrow.

    Lalida, Jerri and Nikki

I am so very sad to see that Anothai has closed. Another fine resturant in Ashburn will be missed!
